T-Mobile: iPhone cables are for unlocked handsets and phones roaming from Europe

mobile

T-Mobile has cleared the air in response to reports Friday that questioned why the carrier might be stocking connector cables for use with Apple’s iPhone and iPod lines. T-Mobile, of course, does not currently sell any Apple products. A T-Mobile spokesperson confirmed to BGR that the cables will be sold in select T-Mobile locations, but said they are intended for subscribers using unlocked iPhone handsets and European T-Mobile customers roaming in the U.S.

Select T-Mobile stores will soon begin carrying iPod/iPhone charge and Sync cables to support customers who may be using an unlocked iPhone or are traveling from outside the United States and using an iPhone while roaming on our network.  T-Mobile carries the iPhone in Europe, so many people traveling to the U.S. roam on our network with their iPhones.  The iPod/iPhone cable also makes a great companion product for our line of MicroUSB charging solutions.  The cable can be plugged into the USB port of the universal MicroUSB car, wall or two-in-one chargers to provide customers with a charging solution for their iPod when they are on the go.

Many had jumped to the conclusion that the iPhone might soon be offered by T-Mobile, but unfortunately that does not appear to be the case. Instead, the iPhone remains an AT&T exclusive… for now.

Sooner or later, T-Mobile USA will carry the iPhone. Maybe Apple will introduce a HSPA+ iPhone 5 to work will T-Mobile USA and AT&T.

By that logic, they should also carry iPhone cases, protectors, speaker docks, etc… Hell, they should just start selling Macs so travelling customers can sync their phones with them!

    I smell something fishy.

???I’m not trying to start a rumor here but those connector cables have the Apple proprietary connector on them. A few months ago Apple sued a company over selling sync cables with their proprietary connector and made them remove it from their site. If T Mobile is openly carrying these cables and doesn’t seem to be worried about Apple knowing it I think there might be some validity to this rumor. Apple doesn’t give their proprietary cables out to anybody unless they’re selling Apple products and they don’t stand idly by and let other companies sell their gear or knock offs unless they get a slice of the profits. My guess T Mobile gets the iPhone by the second quarter of next year. That’s my prediction.

Hit the link below that’s the company I was talking about. They were offering sync cables and Apple shut them down and made sure it was publicly known. I doubt T Mobile is that dumb. There’s something more going on here then what T Mobile is letting on.

That was relating to HyperMac using Apple’s patented magsafes in devices they had not licensed, totally different to a phone shop stocking connector cables for iPhones/iPods.

        TAKEN FROM STORY
Defendants also manufacture, distribute and/or sell products that infringe patents related to Apple’s 30-pin connectors and receptacles , used to connect cables to Apple iPod, iPhone and/or iPad products.”

Those 30 pin connectors are patented by Apple. This is all here say of coarse. Who knows maybe T Mobile is telling the truth. I just find it kind of weird they’re selling those cables that only fit an iPhone/iPod.

T-Mo can’t leak they’re getting the iPhone or they won’t get it. Simple as that
