HTC Legend getting Android 2.2 in ‘coming weeks’

mobile

HTC has broken its vow of silence regarding Android 2.2 and its Legend handset. According to the handset manufacturer, the Android 2.2 update has been “progressing quite well” and will be available in the “coming weeks.” Now, before you get too excited, HTC warns that those with carrier branded Legend handsets may have a “slightly longer wait”; HTC cites the carrier approval process as the delay culprit. The announcement was made via Twitter and Facebook, and the OEM encourages you to ask your burning questions using those mediums. Hit the jump for the full release.

HTC
We know that a number of you have been very vocal about wanting an update for your Legend. First and foremost, we would like to apologize for not responding to your ongoing pleas about the update. But we have been listening. We have been working hard to find the most accurate information about how the update is progressing, and when it will be ready for all of you – thankfully, you won’t have to wait much longer! Below you’ll find all the information we can share right now.

The update has been progressing quite well, and in the coming weeks those with unbranded Legends should be receiving the update.

For those of you with carrier-branded versions of Legend there will be a slightly longer wait. Once we finalize the update within HTC, the software must then go through the appropriate approval process at each carrier that supports Legend on their network. This is the same process for all of our handsets, and Legend is no different. Once our update has been approved by your specific carrier, you should then receive your software update. How long this process takes can vary, but our team is close to finishing the update and will then work with individual carriers for approval.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask here. We will share as much information as we can. Thanks for your patience and for being a HTC customer!

About time. Although I shouldn’t complain, my friend who has the Experia is still stuck on Android 1.6.

Does anyone honestly own this phone?

I think in Europe they do. Also, the good news is that this might be able to be leveraged for better 2.2 ports for the more popular but “out-dated” US phones such as the Sprint Hero, which is similar in specs.

Impressive, iphone was dumped by it’s OS, Android lives on for their users.I own neither, an don’t care for either, but obviously one is leagues beyond the other.

I’m surprised. Spend a day online and HTC has all of their phones on 2.2 with 2.3 coming a week after it’s release.

I own a legend. And seriously, ppl r already talking abt gingerbread updates, n we r yet to get a froyo. The lingering question here is whether legend owners wud get a 2.3 upgrade? The last system update has a bug. Whenevr a new msg comes and I open it, the msg stream goes to the first msg instead of the current one.
