Happy Kinect launch day

Gaming

The hottest gaming accessory of the 2010 holiday season, Microsoft Kinect, is now available across the globe. Microsoft’s new motion-based video game controller for Xbox 360 is set to take the world by storm. Analysts almost unanimously expect it to be one of the best-selling accessories this holiday season, and Microsoft recently raised its holiday sales projections from 3 million to 5 million units. Here’s what you need to know: if you have an Xbox 360, you need Kinect. If you need Kinect, you also need to get moving because purchasing one will be increasingly difficult as we approach the holidays.

I’d like to see some real reviews first.

Agreed… I’ve seen some of the videos that look amazing. But I don’t believe most of what they show actually exists.

When I see some ACTUAL titles responding as “snappily” as the promotional videos I’ve seen on some titles I think I’d actually enjoy I’ll consider it.

Right now it just seems “badass in theory” =)

Maybe I’ll go buy some old skateboards off of craigs list to scan it…

    Bouncing Boobs for everyone. YAY!!

Can’t wait for people to actually get to try this and see its full of issues. Too bad too many are going to pick it up on hype alone.

    Worst console add-on in history.

It is obvious why Microsoft had to fake their two E3 showings of this piece of junk and wouldn’t let anyone review it before it went on sale.

    Massive input lag problems
    Huge accuracy and tracking issues
You need a giant open space
Problems with lighting, clothing, skin color
Using it to navigate interfaces is tedious and slower than a normal controller

Microsoft should have put that 500 million they are spending trying to hock this crap instead on making Kinetic not suck.

After a comment like that, I hope you actually tried the thing? :)

        I doubt they did.

Ahh, how eager we are to forget the Power Glove.

      DinaLS = dump

Bought two today. I’m hoping these are as good as the videos.

From that picture it looks like they are playing a ‘jump-and-take-a-dump’ game?

From the real people (not blogs and zines) previews and reviews, everyone with an open mind thought it was great, people who want to see it fail for whatever reason hate it. Its funny, it reminds me of the “Keep you hands off my Medicare” comment. Im excited about this thing. If you hate new technology and want with all your might to hate it..well dont get it. I’ll have my fun moving, while you’re on the couch clinging to your controller.

Have seen one of these working in a demo booth. Not that laggy, but it didnt look that fun either. Big USP is no requirement to buy extra peripherals for a second player.
As far as that picture up above goes – why is the TV they’re using either an old CRT or in a box? Is it because the Kinect unit is to big and heavy for flat-screens?

I actually got this at the midnight release and was very unsure as to how this would work. I figured I would buy it regardless and if I didn’t like it someone that wanted it at Christmas would buy it on ebay. I will agree that you do need a big space and there is a little bit of lag with the hand icon on the menu, but other than that it is fun. I do think this has potential and through firmware updates, will get even better. I think so many people are ready to jump on the hate band wagon without giving it a chance. (And no I’m not a fan boy, I own all three systems) Try it first before you hate… you might have fun.

$150 it’s just too much for a add on. Reminds me of the Wii, it was cool to play for about a week but then it’s been collecting dust for like 3 years.

My friend got one last night.. has complete body recognition and senses all body movements… its pretty cool, if they made COD or 2K for Kinect it would be intense…

The picture with the Engadget article makes me think of a couple of retarded children throwing themselves around the room at random. Some kind of spastic fit.

Picked up at midnight… absoletly a great product. Completely different than wii. In fact already getting irritated about comparisions. Blows wii and ps3 move out of the water. YOU are the controller. Super fun for adults. Super accurate. Cant wait to play again. Kinect sports is great.

I have it. I dont have any lag issues. I thought it was pretty cool. You do need a lot of space though.
