T-Mobile officially launches 200MB data plan, tethering plan

mobile

Following up on an exclusive from last week, T-Mobile has officially announced two new data offerings for its smartphone customers: a 200MB data plan and a tethering add-on.

The new, 200MB data plan option will cost smartphone owners $15 per month and require no contract extension. If you happen to be a satisfied T-Mo customer, and want to save yourself $60 per year, you can re-ink a new two-year agreement which will bring the offering down to $10 per month; the company will continue to offer its unlimited data plan for $30.

Next up is Magenta’s new “Tethering and Wi-Fi Sharing” plan. The add-on, which will retail for $15 per month, will allow “select smartphones” to “function as wireless modems for connecting devices, such as laptops, tablets and netbooks to the Internet through the T-Mobile network.” The tethering plan can be added to the $30, unlimited data-plan only.

This is a great deal for BlackBerry users – I have 150MB for my Curve on Rogers, and I never go over 100MB.

So, that extra $15 a month will go along with your “Unlimited” Data plan? No Tethering Caps?

      Uhh… no.

….Got more to add to that?…. How much will the CAP be…. if you know?

      • Anonymous

well until you get to 5 GB, where they do will cap it though T-mobile fankids will say its still unlimited though they make it unusable.

Oh, I did remember reading about that… Throttling after 5GB . . . Damn there’s always a catch with TMOB pricing… Guess I’ll rock with Sprint For now.

I Agree, Useless as I have been Choked to Edge Speeds about 1/10th of the SPEEDS that I pay for, for the past five days & only two weeks after I bought the G2.
I have been Tethering a Nexus One for the Past 3 months & this is the first, Doubt it’ll be the last time I exceed the 5Gb Cap for the Supposed Unlimited Data!!!

I’ve seen T-Mobiles download speeds, you’ll never get over 200MB per month anyway.

      Really,
How come I’ve got three months of over 3Gb data use out of the past 6 months & have you ever used the HSPA+ Network…

I’d like to see them prove I’m tethering.

200MB is too small. 500MB should be the bare minimum. These phone company’s greed never ceases to amaze me.

Be aware of that, there’s a 5GB throttling point.
$15 without increasing throttling point isn’t worth to pay.

its better then ATT. 2Gb cap even when you pay for tethering for 20 bucks

Can I get the 200MB plan with my blackberry? I use < 100 MB a month on my BB.

    Thanks,

Not everybody will. I have only gone over 200MB twice in the past 12 months, I’m at or under 100MB about half the time.

If you have WiFi access a lot of the places you go and aren’t streaming media staying under 200MB a month isn’t difficult.

Grrrrr. I’ve been tethering on T-Mobile since 2003, for free. Called them up a few months ago to review APN settings and they insisted “tethering a Blackberry is no longer supported” and referred me to some user board. Aha, so what it REALLY was is that they now want to try to charge me for something I have been able to do for seven and a half years! I fired AT&T for that crap years ago. Just try it, TM. Eat dese nutz.
