Sprint makes 4G official in New York City and five other markets

Today, Sprint announced that its WiMAX, 4G network is officially open for business in six additional locales: New York; New York, Hartford; CT, New Haven; CT, New Brunswick; NJ, Trenton; NJ, and Tampa; FL.

“Sprint has provided customers with 4G service since 2008 and we’re proud to extend our leadership to six more cities today, including New York City,” said Sprint’s president of 4G, Matt Carter. “Sprint is the first national wireless carrier to make 4G a reality for our customers and with the addition of these six new markets we are now in 61 cities, including Chicago, Baltimore and Houston, and are growing. By the end of the year Sprint 4G plans to light up several major new markets including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Denver and Washington DC to name a few.”

      Coverage sucks. Inside our Sprint store there is no coverage at all but once you step outside there’s full bars!!.

      I’m getting 4mbps down and 1mbps up on 8th floor of 40 story building in midtown. Not near a window. YMMV (it appears), but this is officially day 1!!!

    Got 7-8 mbps in Brooklyn last night. I’ve hit close to 10 in lower manhattan where I had full bars for WiMAX.

    Tampa is Great! Now with Orlando out and Miami down the Line, hopefully Naples/FT. Myers is up next in FL.

      naw tmobile is slow their network is junk and there phones are pos! There network crashed because of one app! Wtf they had to reach out to the developer for an unreleased yahoo im app that enable video chat for andriod tmobile sucks so bad I will never go back. They even have a 5gb cap Sprint offers the only real UNLIMITED DATA PLANS! Wimax is 4g hspa+ is 3g period!

    /shrug…I’ve personally seen t-mobile’s HSPA+ be faster sometimes, but have seen Sprint’s 4G be faster most of the time.

      If you walk 5 feet, you go from 5 Bars of 3G to SOS on a blackberry and walk another 5 feet to end up in GSM?
