Samsung: Nexus Two rumor ‘simply not true’

General

Remember that Nexus Two handset rumor that caught fire late last week? Well, according to Korean website danawa.com the report was a false alarm. The site is quoting a Samsung official who claims that the reports — which really took off after Gizmodo published the above mock-up — are “simply not true.” In any case, it looks like Samsung will be — as hypothesized — taking the wraps off of the Continuum smartphone at their November 8th media event. Anyone disappointed?

Not at all, Samchung takes forever to updates their phones.

True, but if it were really a “Nexus Two” you, in theory, wouldn’t have to wait for updates… you would get them directly from Google like the Nexus One. No?

Good point. You would hope so, but …

      • Anonymous

That would have to be a Google phone, not a Samsung phone, for updates to come from Google.

And Google has stated TWICE publicly that there is no more Android phones coming from Google.

Again, they wouldn’t lie about this and if they did, investors would sue their butts.

Not true. Google has previously released direct updates for the Motorola Droid as well.

And while I want to like t-mobile, their service blows. However, a device that has a 1.2 ghz chip and runs pure “vanilla” android (and therefore has access to the latest OS updates) would be totally tubular.

nope doesn’t matter to me I”m about to buy the myTouch 4G. Even tho I love my Nexus One, I had no intention of buying a Samsung made Nexus 2/S.

I am still waiting for the Nexus 2 like Linus in the pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin….

  • whome?

Really? You think the Samsung official will say “yes, the Nexus two is coming out soon and Samsung is building it” LOL.

I’m not saying this report is false but come on.

You do understand that publicly traded companies are not allowed to give out false information to investors?

No Nexus Two. Not from Google. Not from Samsung.

      Get it already.

      • whome?

        Yeah…like that doesn’t happen.

When was the last time a CEO or big name exec admit that they had a device in the works or that it was coming out on a specific date before the product was actually announced?

      • Rob

Actually, they are not allowed to give out false material information – in other words, information that would affect an investor’s decision on whether to invest or not. For a company the size of Samsung, the release of one phone or another would not be material.

looks like iPhone 3GS – old tech rig

To be that thin, I would hope Samsung has started building a better phone. Less creaks, more alloys an optional S-lcd might interest me.

    • Anonymous

Really? Of all things, it’ll take an optional s-lcd to interest you? Since when do manufactures give consumers such an option? It’s not even practical.

  • R_lanzo

I wouldn’t mind if Samsung made the new Nexus phone, its just hardware and so far they seem to be doing just fine in that department. As for late updates if the phone runs native/stock android without any bloatware it shouldn’t be a problem.

    Hmmm…
    Then i9020 isn’t nexus 2?
I am not disappointed because I have 2 choices:
    MyTouch 4 Gen
    GT-i9020

  • Anonymous

Hate to be the one, but… “I told you so”

  • Anonymous

I’m a bit relieved, to be honest.

I don’t want a cheap plastic phone to be the Nexus Two…. if had Orion, on the other hand…maybe.

  • Anonymous

So Gizmodo jumped the gun? Wouldn’t be surprised. Or is Samsung in denial? Wouldn’t be surprised.

Is some part of it true?

The Super AMOLED screens looked nice I thought. But Samsung has a crappy UI. Samsung screens on a vanilla Google Android phone might be nice if Google makes Gingerbread look good and keeps it stable.

HTC sense hasn’t been the most stable thing for me. I get occasional crashes out of it.

  • Anonymous

    Quite the opposite of disappointed.

They denied the rumor of the Nexus Two…but not the Samsung Galaxy S2- which makes me even more firmly believe that the S2 rumors are true.

  • Anonymous

Good, because that phone looks terrible. I don’t think we’ll see a nexus two.

still owning and using my N1 as my main smartphone i have realized that, with all it’s MANY minor flaws, it was still WAY ahead of it’s time since buying it in January 2010, and still is tied in many categories with brand new smartphones. This N2 didn’t look like the same revolutionary vision if it were to come out. i do hope Google puts out a proper Nexus Two though.
