iPhone 5 to support portable computing using NFC

mobile

A new report from Cult of Mac suggests that Apple may have some nifty new features in store for the upcoming iPhone 5. Rumors that the iPhone 5 will utilize NFC are nothing new at this point, but this morning’s claims cover a very unique feature for the underutilized technology. The report suggests that the iPhone 5 will include a new portable computing function, allowing users to store data and settings from Mac computers on their iPhones. When a handset is waved near any other compatible NFC-equipped Mac computer, the user’s “applications, settings and data” will become available on the computer. “It will be as though they are sitting at their own machine at home or work,” the report states. In short, the feature would provide a new type of remote computing that could eliminate the need for virtual network computing (VNC) or similar technologies. This new feature is anything but confirmed for the time being, but it certainly would be a welcome addition for Mac users. What’s more, it might help give customers with aging Mac computers an extra push to upgrade to newer NFC-enabled machines.

When I see an iPhone wave and magically restore a recording session from Pro Tools I’ll believe it… I call B.S. VNC is the only way to access the many gbs of info that audio/ visual recording, and editing programs need… I think the tipster was mistaken

I’m hoping its true but NFC is still a young technology and last time I looked into it there was still a lot of development to be done before it could truly be useful. I doubt anyone will see this type of technology deployed for at the very least another 5 years if not more. Hopefully I’m wrong.

I still don’t get y it would be called 5 instead of 4g… wouldn’t it be 4g considering VZ n att will be on 4g for years to come. If u put 5 then by the time 4g comes out u can’t go down.

Ok so I did a quick Google search… what the fuck does NFC stand for? Something something computing?

I know if I took enough time I could figure out what the acronym stands for, but I thought you weren’t supposed to use an acronym in a title (unless it’s S.O.S. or something ALMOST universal) or post/editorial/paper until you’ve defined the acronym and then put its shortened version next to it.

So, um, BGR, what does NFC stand for? National Football Conference? No fun club? No fucking computers? What?

      Near Field Communication

…but that’s what I was about to comment about. People who don’t know what it is an abbreviation for are never going to find out.

Quick Google search???? You’re a funny guy. Searching for NFC alone the answer is returned as the second result. Google NFC iPhone and you have your answer without even having to click a link.

Gee, could this be a ploy by the Steve-god to sell more Mac computers? Or will there be a USB attachment to make it work on my HP? I won’t get my hopes up. Then again I would not buy an iphone even if it was the last smartphone on Earth.

Its called system wide platform integration. They’re making it easier for someone to grab their phone walk out the door get to work and mythically restore all their bookmarks, passwords etc so whatever Mac/PC they’re using at work or on the go when it boots up its like their personal home computer and vice versa. Once that person is finished using that other Mac/PC it reverts back to its previous settings with no personal information left behind. Think of it as a digital wallet with all your personal information stored on it ready for when you need it most. If more of the industry would put more time and energy into platform integration a lot more users would be happy. And for your information its not a ploy to sell more Macs. Various companies have been dabbling in NFC technology for the last few years but nothing has yet made it to market. If you stop and think about it with the explosion of mobile technology and the subsequent future growth that’s coming in mobile its nothing more then the next logical step. What Apple may be doing with NFC technology isn’t called a ploy. Its called using your head to satisfy your customer base and insuring someone else doesn’t beat you to the punch. You should lay your bias aside and try thinking outside the box. It shouldn’t matter whether its Apple HP or insert company name here who brings this to market first. Its a good thing not only for the the general consumer but especially for the white collar professional and the always on the go blue collar consumer.

how about adding Flash and blue tooth to send and receive files. How about using song as ringing tones instead of itune. How about reducing the price a little bit like 700 buck unlocked from factory and see the number of people who will be so into iphone. If u love your customers stop stealing from them and for once make them happy. Iphone is still the best in market anyway.
