Facebook hosting mysterious ‘mobile event’ November 3rd

Breaking

Moments ago, Facebook began to send out invites to a “Mobile Event” scheduled for November 3rd at the company’s headquarters. Back in September, TechCrunch and Business Insider both reported that the social networking behemoth was developing their own handset with deep Facebook integration. Will we see the rumored device come to fruition on Wednesday? Perhaps a more feature rich mobile application? We’ll just have to wait and find out.

I’m really sick of Facebook. How long do you think they will last honestly? I feel so over-exposed on there. You are compelled to check your notifications constantly to make sure nobody posted anything dumb on any of your content.

    • B

Stop b*tching. If you’re sick of it, don’t use it. Simple as that

      • mike watson

YOU SIR EARNED A MINUS SYMBOL.

      • Al

        You sure showed him!

      • mike watson

OK WELL NOW YOU HAVE EARNED A MINUS SYMBOL.

      • Jake

        and 20 plus symbols ;)

      • brswa

Couldn’t have said it better myself. And really? “How long do you think they will last?” They are as incorporated into the Internet as Google and only growing. They will be a staple of many years to come..

      • SF

you sir got showered by them

There is nothing wrong with voicing an opinion about many of the serious problems with facebook. I use it, and have serious concerns with it, but still keep with it because of both professional and family ties on facebook. It’s becoming a social behemoth that often times crosses the line of privacy.

Obviously “B” must live in some ideal universe where everything is black and white, where you must use something and like everything about it, or not speak against it, or completely disown it. Unfortunately, for those of us who live in the real world, that’s not the case.

very well said jfr. sometimes people leave because it causes an adverse emotional impact. today i noticed they released friend-to-friend. click on any friend under where it says photos it says you and “them.” it gives away all your friends mutual friends that you wouldn’t have known before. it also allows people to see hidden pictures. fb is terrible for privacy.

If any of your Facebook content is as dumb as this post, then I’d be paranoid too.

    • nothavin’it

You are over-exposed because of what you post. If you don’t want “private” information on the internet, DON’T POST PRIVATE INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET. NO E-MAIL, NO TWITTER, NADA! Wake up

  • Kim Jong-il

We proudly promote use of this as long as you post pro-government material only.

  • Tony

I wish they would update their Android app to actually be usable.

    • Tony (ehh)

      EHHHHHH!!!!

    • hrtr

they invited Androidcentral, an android website/blog. So maybe it has something to do with android.

    • tech junkie for life

You should try the Blackberry App and that comes from RIM, just awful also.

      • VZSprextel

Amen. I’m finally about to get rid of my BlackBerry Storm, and I won’t miss either the phone or the RIM-provided Facebook app.

      • http://twitter.com/DylanWest Dylan West

I do believe the the stupid Facebook on my Blackberry may be the worst and least useful application I have ever used in my entire life. It can’t do anything. At all. The only decent thing about it is that it incorporates into native Blackberry notifications, because it comes from RIM. Other than that. It is completely and totally useless.

  • Meshach David

I really hope it’s a feature rich application, and not a Facebook phone…that’d be a much better update

    • Maybach David

Get yourself a nicer car and maybe those features will compensate. Stop trying to compensate with your phone use your car instead.

  • Derek Jeter

Yes this is really Derek Jeter and yes I’m excited for said event. I’ve got nothing to do so …

    • Jake

      Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

      I appreciated that.

  • Facebook Freddy

What makes you cool on facebook …

    -over 3000 friends
-pictures with 10 or more girls in your profile pictures
-pictures of you with good abs.
-at least three comments from pretty girls per week as original wall posts.

    • MacLova

      LOL.

  • lurch

A facebook phone?? 7th grade girls of the world, rejoice!

    • T.I.

With a Facebook phone it will not only be watching what you do on the web but literally recording everything you do with sound and video.

  • Villa Nueva Italian Restaurant (Burbank CA)

What can they possibly announce? Now you can use groups from your clunky mobile app?

  • Calvin Korner

What fb needs to do is INtegrate facebook IN groups on a larger level. You seem the uniformity here?

  • The Onion-Like Writer

Friendster to make comeback after Myspace surges on site design.

  • Halloween Harry

By adding a plus symbol you can congratulate me on my new job. In addition to working as Hanukah Harry I will now work Halloween.

  • jarrod lilly

I want a blue phone shaped like the letter F. They can call it the fPhone.

    • MacLova

LOL. that is one of the funniest things ive read all year.

  • spook

hmmm this looks like a phone event… as in hardware. look at the thread phone in the art. a hint!

  • hypnos

Is that suppose to be a woman or Darth Vadar in the picture?

    • TheBivMan

probably designed by people who would rather talk to Darth Vader than a woman

  • Michael

Gonna guess some music streaming service? idk.. thats what the picture looked like to me..

    • TheBivMan

The long-rumored Ping/Facebook connection? Eh…I dunno about that

  • mbd

Maybe to announce they’ve been bought by apple, as recently rumoured….

  • Ted Nugent

A facebook phone would be great…an easily identifiable way of finding the most insecure/annoying people on the planet. It’ll be the tramp-stamp of the 2010′s.

  • Joe

Please, don’t try and design anything new until you fix the pieces of crap you call your existing mobile apps. I thought facebook for the iPhone was bad, then I tried facebook on my Droid. Both apps suck, but the Android offering is pitiful, to say the least.

Christ man, you’d think a billion dollar corporation could afford a little more for the software design.

    • TheBivMan

but that’s the thing, Joe. ALL of Facebook has horrible design. Chat is the most unstable thing I have used on the internet since 1998 or so. The pop-ups and notifications are garbage. The video link posting interface is horrible slow. Facebook is one of the ugliest websites on the internet.

  • patrick

Mobile to mobile skype from within the facebook app.

  • jfr

If it is a mobile device, would probably appeal to the teenage crowd.

  • Sagar

Isn’t that like Helio for MySpace?
    It’s all going to fail.

  • jbone

How about a FB app for blackberry that doesn’t suck?

    • nothavin’it

      @jbone

Bad news. I’m beta testing v1.9. Sorry, it still sucks. The problem is Facebook for BlackBerry is being programmed by the RIMjob guys and not Facebook’s own developers. That’s the problem with most apps on Android, iOS, Windows Phone, etc. Each platform has different developers working on this, causing a fragmented user experience. These developers aren’t skilled in leveraging the minimum best use practices for the device combined with the experience users have access to on the desktop browser version of the website. I like the ideas put forth in a gigaom article regarding Google’s recent update of the web app version of Gmail accessible in the iOS browser. At your leisure, read, “Want to See the Future of Mobile Web Apps? Just Watch Google” at http://gigaom.com/2010/10/28/gmail-web-app-iphone/
