Microsoft Kinect pre-orders sold out at Best Buy, Amazon.com

Gaming

It’s not exactly a mystery that Microsoft’s upcoming Kinect sensor is highly anticipated — Kinect is expected to be the hottest gaming accessory to launch ahead of the holidays this year. Interested gamers (and friends or relatives of interested gamers) might want to scoop one up as early as possible because demand is already quite high. Business Insider reports that pre-orders for the Microsoft Kinect standalone sensor are already sold out at both Best Buy and Amazon.com. Console bundles are still available at both locations, but that won’t help the millions of gamers out there who already own Xbox 360 consoles. Playing the waiting game until Kinect becomes available at brick and mortar stores is always a gamble, so those looking to be prepared should head over to the GameStop website or Walmart’s website where pre-orders for the Kinect sensor are still available… for now.

I think this thing is going to sell like crazy. Everyone knocked the Wii & said it was kid gaming but kid gaming outsold everything else, even if the “real game players” didnt buy it. I just put it on my list for my friend to get me. Never owned any model XBOX but i will for this & if i hate it, ill craigslist it like i do everything else. Demand should be pretty high & possibly sold out everywhere until early in the year so if i dont like it after a couple weeks, I might actually turn a profit!

It will sell just like HD-DVD.

The tiny hardcore Xbox fanboys will rush out to buy this piece of garbage addon and then it will die.

Kinetic is so bad that Microsoft has resorted to:

      * Faking two straight E3 live demos of it

      * Trying to stop gaming websites from reviewing it before it goes on sale and everyone sees what a piece of garbage it is just like Square tried to do with FFXIV

      • Nope

You’re wrong. In Augustish, they set up kinect in Macy’s stores across the country (including the one near me) and it appeared to work very well. I think its all in how you set it up/the environment.

It seems to me that everyone that uses the term “fanboy” is just that of another system, OS, carrier, ect. U say tiny amount even considering the number of units they push. Even with the high fail rates they had people were still going out & buying more! Sorry guy but ur dilusional. Numbers & track record dont lie but its really easy for someone to throw their personal opinion around like theyre the CEO of some Fortune 500 company so they know success from failure. If u did, i doubt u would be rambling about it on here.

HD-DVD being a failure wasnt XBOX or Microsofts fault. They got beat by a bigger/better product. Microsoft/XBOX just chose the wrong format but the system never fell off because of it.

Ive never cared to own a 360 because the controller never worked for me but i never said it was garbage & i dont think Microsoft would pull it from the shelf if i did. Theres a few million other people who beg to differ. & there will be for the Kinect also.

Also just remember, even if it does die a quick death….. the team that created it probably does better than the $25 a week allowance ur parents give u

too much effort — nobody is reading your post — looks boring

lol so true..I read one sentence and dismissed it

      • sirpaul

I read it and found it interesting. And it’s true.

      • SKINNI

Yea im sure if the first sentence doesnt accuse someone of being a fanboy, call a product thats not even released crap, say that someone is dumb for not playing ur fav game or using ur fav phone, then u pass on it. Get a clue. Yea its a blog but sometimes people actually use a little thought before they talk & dont just babble about how much they hate something thats made more money for a company in a few years than u ever will with ur illustrious career at Whataburger slangn those great burgers & lemon turnovers.

“NO HOMO” im ok with u dismissing it because i dismissed the term “fanboy”. Ill do the same for u for using the term “NO HOMO”. Heads up….. a straight guy should never have such low self esteem that he needs to declare himself to be straight

Just the fact you spelled it “Kinetic” means you already know nothing about this product. I was at a small MS/Sony/Nintendo distributor party in NYC three weeks ago – we got to try it. I’ve had just about every console that existed at one time or another, and currenyly own a PS3, 360 & Wii (not including the portables). I can tell you that playing Kinect was pretty damn amazing, and while the games may be on simplistic side now, the potential is enormous. Wait, why I am explaining this to you – lick my boots.

A Pre-Order of a new product sold out?!

:D Without exact numbers we can assume that they only allows 3 kinects for pre order, lets not make a big deal out of it to boost your site views :)

  • http://www.vgchartz.com superchunk

A few days ago it was reported on a few sites that MS had told retailers to stop taking preorders.

Could be crazy demand, production issues, or just MS generated hype.

  • Brilliant Idea

Maybe they should call it SHCMEXBOX WAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

    • lurch

No, they should call it the RedRingOfDeathBox.

    cazy about it,www.uggbootshop.org

I think it will depend on the games.

The success of the Wii was due, in part, to it’s simplicity. Most idiots could pick it up and grasp the concept:

“Oh, if I swing it, the tennis player swings his racket”.

    Simple.

If MS tries to combine complex gaming with motion I think it’ll suck.

“Okay, button x does this, y does, this, the joystick looks around…

…now swing it, shake, do a 360, throw it over your shoulder, do a backflip and catch.”

    C-C-C-combo.

  • Eric

Maybe MS is playing Apple’s trick: only made fewer units so it will create a huge demand. :D

Hey, don’t judge me! People can tarnish Apple that way, I can say the same thing about MS.

    • SKINNI

Ufortunately thats true of alot of companies. A small supply automatically stirs talk/demand. People believe if its sold out it has to be great lol!

  • ohmy

    Good job MS!

  • Sinnerswake

So Best Buy has 100 units per store and they sold out. Well not much surprise there.
