Palm rumored to have 5-6 new devices brewing

Tablets

If a report from financial paper The Taiwan Economic Times is to be believed, freshly acquired Palm Inc. is getting ready to fire up the afterburners and fuel them with bags full of HP’s cash. The paper cites industry sources in claiming that Chinese manufacturing giants Foxconn and Compal were recently awarded new contracts for a total of five to six new Palm-branded devices. Among them is the fabled PalmPad, a webOS-powered tablet that will compete with the Apple iPad, the BlackBerry PlayBook and the flurry of Android tablets currently bombarding the market. Each of the aforementioned five to six devices will reportedly go on sale in 2011.

I really hope this is true. WebOS is FAR too amazing to die a slow and painful death. Come on Palm, don’t let HP turn you into an iPaq.

I hope everything is up and running well by the time I’m due for a new phone in January of 2012. I had a Pre and loved webOS but the hardware was defective, so I got rid of it after only a few days. Yes, I mean defective. But if everything is working right in my time frame, I would definitely switch from Android to Palm.

The dual screen slider or the touch screen, put a dual core processor to do some real multitasking and you have an amazing device. The os is already good, only a good camera/video recorder is needed and a top notch screen. I would make the jump.

…The PalmPad is going to be a threat…if there is anything that Palm should be able to do very well it’s make a tablet…I cant wait to watch the redemtion of Palm!

Don’t know who used to make their stuff but the knock on Palm was always the hardware buildquality. The OS was always much admired. This tablet could be ‘da bomb for sure and the rest of the line-uplooks nice as well. With a decent build quality they could re-emerge next year.

Now if Palm had released the large all touch screen phone on the left side of the pic instead of that little ugly thing, things would have been different. No doubt about it.

WebOS has some serious potential…they need to get it running on some larger screened devices. Bigger is only better up to a point but I want to be able to read my books and browse the web comfortably and that does require a larger screen than any of their phones provide.

please for the love of palm have a 4.3″ all touch screen with at least an 854X480 resolution ala the Droid X. I will sell a kidney for that phone.
