Business Insider: Apple holding ‘secret’ iOS developer conference next week

Rumor

What’s better than a developer conference? A secret developer conference of course. Business Insider is reporting that Apple, Inc. will be hosting a “secret iOS developer summit next week.” The event, which is being billed as an invite only, could be an effort by the Cupertino handset maker to polish iOS 4.2 applications that will be ready when Apple makes the next iteration of its mobile OS official. Business Insider cites “an industry source” in the report. It’s all speculative at this point, but we’re sure more information about the double-secret meeting will leak out next week… if it does happen to go down.

they are probably going to talk about google…and how the android market has over 100k apps. Steve Jobs should be shittin his pants right now! 92 android devices vs…4 I OS devices….

    • sirpaul

Yeah, but considering Apple only has one phone out at a time, they are doing very well! Those 92 devices you mentioned are made by different companies, require more R&D $$$, they all require different engineers for hardware design, as well as coders. I don’t think it’s fair to compare one company with almost a whole industry. While I’m no Apple fanboy, credit should be given where credit is due. They’ve made a great phone, and did extremely well with their App store.

Although I’m certain Steve is brainstorming new ways to storm the phone market, I doubt he is anywhere close to “shittin his pants”, as you said.

      • Steel

He doesn’t have to brainstorm too hard: how do you sell more phones? Step outside of your self-defined saturated market of AT&T to those who actually use cell phones for calls… because they can.

Google is killing apple. RIP APple. Bankruptcy is looming.

I like how BGR titled “secret” conference. (Not so secret anymore)

      • sirpaul

We still don’t know what it’s all about, so it’s still secret ;)

I thought I asked you guys not to post anything about this secret conference. I thought I could trust you guys over Gizmodo… I guess not. Are there any trustworthy geeks left? Oh wait…

what i mean is that it is blatantly obvious that Steve Jobs is concerned with the growth that android has shown. He acts out in his own little ways because he is nervous about it. That much is clear. Yes, fragmentation is hurting android, but most people are either unaware or do not care (and root their devices) because they knew about it already. there is always a way to stay updated with android, it is ALWAYS moving forward

    • gquaglia

Fragmentation is nothing but a FUD term used by anyone looking to scare developers, consumers or anyone else from the Android platform.

      • The Prophet Mohammad

No, it’s a reality that is scaring developers away from the platform. The android community is full of idiots who think everything should be free (monetarily) and it’s a mess of incompatible versions of an unstable OS. Yeah. If I developed I wouldn’t waste my time with android.

I’m a contract attorney in Manhattan and I consider myself to be a very smart guy. I find it contradictory that people would be able to find out about such secret meetings. Maybe the big wigs at Apple should stop leaking their “secrets.”

    • WalterSobchak

Hey himmler, spread your hate elsewhere you frickin antisemite!

  • gquaglia

Unless they are adding notifications, widgets, or other meaningful UI improvement it will be nothing but fluff.

    • siler

do not want widgets on my iphone.

  • Applepaltrow

How is it a secret when you are telling us?

  • MacMan

I like how android people want steve jobs to talk about google really ? Do you really think he cares about android ? He is too busy making awesome products that work. Not a bunch of half ass products to replace last months half ass products.

Wake me up when android is as polished as ios.

    • The Prophet Mohammad

It amazes me people think Apple would need to react to android, let alone any other OS. Odds are its likely has something to do with a 4.2 or the looming CDMA devices that Apple WILL release this winter. So yeah I guess he may talk alittle about android…about how Verizon will need to clear that trash off their shelves for something people actually want.

    • WalterSobchak

He seems to bitch about android every time someone puts a mic or tape recorder in front of his face.
Seems like a weird thing do for something he doesn’t care about.

ha ha u can’t come. I own everything!

    don’t ask me

  • Obj_me

Has this event even been confirmed with the invitees? If it’s something apple is trying to keep secret they’re sure as hell not gonna tell ya…. Unless some Apple engineer unwittingly leaves the event itinerary on a barstool or something! I agree, the above predictions are probably right about it being about iOS 4.2 and will probably be mainly focused on the iPad as 4.2 is long overdue for iPad users. Maybe we’ll see some new, nifty, unannounced iPad-centric features? I doubt we’ll hear any news of a CDMA iPhone as that doesn’t really affect devs one way or another. I mean thats the only thing that kinda makes sense considering iOS 5 betas aren’t likely to drop until the first half of 2011. Maybe jobs will start secretly getting devs on board for an early 2011 ATV app store launch. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what rabbits steve jobs will be pulling out of his hat this time!

  • http://openmrs.org Paul Biondich

Seems like it could be related to app development on the ATV2 as well…
