Office for Mac 2011 now available

Software

Microsoft announced Tuesday that its updated OS X productivity suite, Office for Mac 2011, is now available. Office for Mac consists of Microsoft’s class-leading productivity applications including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. For the first time, the suite also includes Microsoft Outlook, which replaces the less popular Entourage email client. Mac users have been waiting for Microsoft to replace Entourage with Outlook for years now, and this switch alone is likely worth the price of admission. And as far as pricing is concerned, Office for Mac 2011 breaks down as follows:

  • Microsoft Office for Home and Student 2011 (single license): $109.99 – $149.99
  • Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business (single license): $174.99 – $279.99

As is often the case, third-party retailers such as Amazon.com currently offer the best pricing on Microsoft’s new Office for Mac 2011 suite.

      n00bs use torrents

      • Honda Design Team

Well if torrents are for n00bs, what are NON-n00bs using these days? News groups?

  • Jarrett

For those going the torrent route please be sure to inform your boss that since Microsoft doesn’t need to be paid for their hard work, you have also decided that you don’t need to be paid for yours either.

Wait… all these years since Mac has been around, Apple still can’t make something that “just works” better than a Microsoft product like Office?

    Interesting…

    • MadSkillz

If MS threatens to pull Office, Apple could put iWork on steroids. It happened before when Adobe pulled Premiere. Enter Final CUt Pro. It gained so much ground that Adobe then brought Premiere back to the mac.

Besides, MS Office got its start on the Mac, and has done very well. Why mess up a good thing.

      • Mang

Yes, they could, but the majority of Mac users WANT MS Office. That itself speaks volumes.

iWork clearly doesn’t do the job.

Wait… all these years since Windows has been around and Microsoft still can’t make something that “just works” so Mac user would switch platforms?

      Interesting…

What are talking about dude… Sounds like some hate…
There is nothing wrong with mac users using office.
Apple makes iWorks which is cool for some people but others like me just rather use office.

Heh, I’ve had it and have been using it for over a month. One of the few times that the business side of Microsoft got something before retail…

I love how stealing music and movies is fine, even though hundreds of hours of work go into those, but god forbid we steal overpriced software which hasn’t had a major overhall in a decade.

    • Jarrett

Who said stealing Music or Movies is fine? I am not a big fan of religion but I do agree with traditional Islamic law of cutting of the hand(s) of thieves. If use someone’s product or service the least you could do is pay for the right.

Maybe it was just the way I was brought up. I remember the couple of times I did steal something and how my parents made me feel shame for doing so. If you are stealing anything about past the age of 18 I think your parents should be punch in the face repeatedly until you change your ways.

I agree with you (maybe not the punching part lol) but still Software piracy seems the highest evil of all piracies, at least when it comes to the ethical discussions surrounding torrenting.

I’m looking forward to a time when either Office is priced reasonably or when Outlook is available as a stand-alone purchase. Think I’ll be waiting long?

  • Outlook 2011 User

Anyone getting winmail.dat attachment issues with Outlook 2011? This could be a deal breaker for me. One would think Outlook 2011 would be able to speak with messages sent from Outlook for Windows!

    • Danny

Yes! I am getting winmail.dat attachments all the time. This seems like a serious flaw and is a deal breaker for me too. I was seriously considering dropping windows altogether because of the Outlook for Mac release but now it seems I won’t be able to.

  • Blah

Good news. Being a mac user and wife wanting the new LG windows 7 phone, that now will sync with macs, this will be great company for her phone. :)

A new revolutionary product from Apple!!

    • Derp Derp

Idiot, Microsoft makes Office not Apple.

  • jasbart

Evidently Outlook 2011 for Mac will not sync with Blackberry Desktop for Mac. Pretty big disappointment…hope they come up with an update.

  • jasbart

Doesn’t BGR find the fact that Outlook 2011 for Mac won’t sync Calendar and Notes newsworthy?
