New MacBook Air benchmarked

General

Have you been twiddling your thumbs, contemplating whether or not to get the svelte new MacBook Air? The folks over at Macworld might just have what you’ve been looking for — benchmark scores. The website has published benchmark results for all four variants of the new Air and as it turns out, all four outperformed previous generation models. The new 11.6-inch MacBook Air, even with its 1.4GHz processor, managed to outperform the older 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo models thanks to its speedy flash storage. The new 13.3-inch 1.86GHz model even managed to marginally outperform the current 13-inch MacBook Pro. So, if you are still sitting on the fence, check out our hands-on and then hit the read link for detailed benchmark results.

I’m an attorney in Manhattan and work all day on an IBM T series. Take if from me you need more raw power. Sometimes there’s not an app for that and in the case of power the Apple falls short.

      Your an idiot. Apple rules.

        Not Yet MacMan…..but soon.

You are entitled to your interpretation, however, you’re probably and unemployed dog walker for Omaha.

You pay for one college girl or for many college girl’s tuition to college? Very clever.

power is good, but the Mac OS from my experience isnt as processor intensive as Windows tends to be giving you more power for the programs you need to run. i can run the same applications on different operating systems and ive always gotten better performance for the most part on the MB.

I am an Architect in Denver and use graphics intensive modelling software. For kicks I installed “SketchUp” on my wife’s 2.13 Ghz MacBook Air (2Gigs RAM, 128 GB SSD) and it worked smoother than on my 13″ Aluminum Unibody 2 Ghz with 4 GB RAM. The only reason I was (am still a little) reluctant to make the move is that the SSD was limited to 128GB (now at 256 GB I am severely tempted), and the RAM was limited to 2Gigs (now at 4GB BTO).

I don’t know what specs and OS you run on your Lenovo T, and I don’t know what software (as an attorney) you could possibly run that needs more “raw power” (I hear Windows Vista and 7 both are memory hogs, so that may be your problem), but take it from me Apple does not “fall short” of any of the Windows systems I am using :)

The MacBook Airs point to the future of mobile computing. Now: Who wants to buy my MacBook Unibody?

P.S.: I’m a little bummed they scrapped the keyboard backlighting.

    2011 Apple Predictions:

    -White phone
    -backlit air keyboards
-NEW CONCEPT FOR THE SMALLER PRO LINE

  • Sony X and TT Lover

Now that Sony withdrew its 11.6 inch $3000-level ultraportables Apple sweeps in with Sony’s old concept sans optical drive with still-worse battery life and less ports.

    • lechero

worse battery how? last i checked you get apples advertised battery life. all 3 sony models ive owened you got maybe 50% of their advertised capability.

      • Sony X and TT Lover

Lechero, I had a Sony TX 610. In 2006 it got 10+ hours weighed 2.8 pounds with battery and had the same LED screen with the same resolution. It had every card reader, an optical drive, a lock slot and a carbon fiber cover.

      • NuShrike

Current Sony Z is well placed above the MBA and below the MBP in price and yet outperforms/features both, looking at all the stats.

      • ras

I looked/am looking at the Vaio Z, but the screen has a tendency to crack too easily. They sacraficed frame strength to keep the weight down. Even as a confirmed Mac user I can appreciate the Vaio Z.

      • NuShrike

Has it cracked? I’ve dropped a number of ~1 pound of stuff edge-on onto the Z’s screen/lid. Still going strong. That carbon fiber is much stronger than it looks, even with the flex.

The only person who would pay the same price for a white plastic Macbook as the new 11 inch air has to store a lot of porn.

    • MacMan

      :( Raises hand.

  • longcat

I’m a nurse from Anaheim and I’m wondering why this is so thin?

  • serpentor

    No keyboard backlighting??

    Not cool, Apple. Not cool.

  • http://www.innovatoys.com/ Cindy Auligny

The improvement of this new iFixit is its thickness (the thinnest is just 2.5mm) because of using SSD despite hard disk like the others, and it’s battery life. It’s so amazing. Its cost is suitable, seems cheaper than the original Mac book air or Mac pro.
    It worthies the cost!

  • T Man

So BGR, are you going to start reporting benchmarks on all of the new laptops from all manufacturers, or just Apple?

  • hgcowner

“all four outperformed previous generation models”

OH WOW!! a new computer outperformed an old computer!!! OMG THIS IS BREAKING!!!!

tell me when that POS can outperform a quadcore i7 becuase for $100 less you can get a laptop with that 4GB of ram and a 500GB HDD.

lets not even start on the video card.
