Google Nexus Two out in Europe in time for the holidays?

General

British business paper City A.M. claims a Gingerbread-powered Google Nexus Two will launch in time for the holidays and will be available in the UK as a Carphone Warehouse exclusive. Considering Google CEO Eric Schmidt stated pretty plainly over the summer that there were no plans for a second Google-branded phone, we’re skeptical at best. The report cites an unnamed industry source in saying, β€œIt looks like Google is experimenting with the future of its mobile model in the UK. It tried releasing through a single carrier, now it is trying a single retailer. It could be a solution to the problems it experienced when it tried to sell the Nexus One exclusively through its website. People like to be able to go to a store β€” this solves that.” The second coming of Google’s failed direct-sales experiment will apparently not be manufactured by HTC, the company responsible for building Google’s Nexus One, pictured above. The report does not indicate which company might be responsible for manufacturing the Nexus Two, however, saying only that the phone would likely not be made by Samsung.

This device will trump the first one. What I am excited about is an AMOLED that has a coating allowing it to be used it the sun.

So that just leaves Motorola then….. =p

I was thinking the same thing but AT&T????

But then again that would mean it would use the same 3G bands as European carriers so maybe that makes sense after all…….

But then AGAIN, I would think it would be compatible with a US carrier’s 4G to get a leg up on iPhone….

        I JUST DON’T KNOW =/

Isnt the first one still pretty much where newer phones are at, spec wise? 1ghz processor and 3.7″ high res display? Wouldn’t it be better to wait until the dual core processors are available to provide a true upgrade?

    • http://twitter.com/GamerCore Chris Chavez

Well, the Nexus One has been obsolete since it can barely handle two finger multitouch and has no front facing cam.

One of the key new features in Gingerbread is gonna be video calling integration with Google Talk so its time for some slightly new hardware =p

      • Fernando

I wouldn’t call not having a front facing camera obsolete, and I thought the multi touch problem was fixed in 2.2? Oh well, never hurts to have more options!

“Well, the Nexus One has been obsolete since it can barely handle two finger multitouch”

        Wow, what an idiot.

      • Channan

Nah. He’s dead on. So I don’t understand why he’s been down-ranked. Multitouch sucks balls on the Nexus One. Don’t be a fanboy and use Multitouch Visible Test from the market and see for yourself.

It’s the main reason I don’t use my Nexus One any more. Texting sucks and I can’t even play Gameboid because of it. So if the Nexus Two has good multitouch, battery life, slightly refreshed (but hopefully not too different) design, an updated screen that doesn’t look like an amateur product, and an updated processor, I’ll ditch my Nexus One for it in a heartbeat.

        FINALLY someone who understands! =)

Sweet, damn cant wait for the rest of the year and q1 2011

  • umaluver

The fact that they think its going to be Samsung means its a bullshit story. Google would never let Samsung be in charge of making the next ‘developer’ phone or pure Android phone, whatever you want to call it.

    • http://twitter.com/GamerCore Chris Chavez

And you know this….. how? LOL

    • jhen

read teh article dude…it says NOT by samsung.

    • jason

“saying only that the phone would likely NOT be made by Samsung.”

    • Stang68

I think you need to read the last sentence of the article again.

  • john ccain

    Instant buy.

  • MacMan

Let’s hope it doesn’t fail like the first one.

    • http://twitter.com/GamerCore Chris Chavez

      Agreed.

      • southeastbeast

Gamercore!?!? haha looks like you from twitter photo. The first one WASN’T a fail. I returned my G2 because my Nexus was too sexy still. Also if it is going to be the next dev phone it will be unlocked with ease so it won’t get the usual Samsung crappy update treatment.

      • http://twitter.com/GamerCore Chris Chavez

        Hey buddy =p

And yeah, the G1 is sexy.. I would even go as far as to say the SEXIEST of all cell phones currently.

But video calling and hardware acceleration will be a key feature in Gingerbread so they need a beefier GPU and front facing cam.

It wont be Samsung. That I know (and the article said also =p)

        Crap. *N1

      • Johnathan

Selling a little over 100k is a FAIL. You are correct if it does come out at least it won’t have bloatware like the rest of the Android phones.

      • MacMan

Actually I was talking about how they sold it through google only. You couldnt go to a AT&T or tmobile store and actually see the phone before you bought it.

I mean who do they think they are ??? Apple, far from it.

And yes 100k is not a tremendous success when compared to the Jesus phone.

  • Jason

Hey BGR, could we at least find a Nexus pic with 2.2 on it?

  • ChocoChimichanga

Thank god it’s not Samsung. Their phones are garbage. Just cheap plastic toys.

    • tech junkie for life

Could be worse, there is always LG you know

  • Zio

I think the next Nexus 1 will be made by Huawei i believe.

    • Zio

Nexus 2 i meant to say

  • http://www.twitter.com/M_Sined Sined

If it isn’t HTC I’m really on the fence about it…
I mean living in Canada I feel like I don’t want to give my money to Moto for how they treated the Dext, Quench and Backflip.

It isn’t Samsung according to the article. Which I didn’t want given the build quality of certain Galaxy S devices.

I don’t want it to be LG. lol

That leaves…. Sony Ericsson? HELL NO! Look how the X10 was handled. TOTAL and EPIC FAIL.

  • mingkee

Will it be released in states?
Only N2 can replace N1, nothing else.

  • JM

I would love it…I am still enjoying my Nexus One.

  • Noel

My N1 still rocks…and still holding its own when compared to the newbies. In my view only N2 will make me think of staying apart from my beloved N1. I shud say that will also depend on who is gonna make the phone…hmmmm not samsung…maybe Motorola w/ the nvidia Tegra2 chipset…HTC will be my preference. But my guess is Motorola as the maker. I just wish Google had thought ahead and had a FFC on the N1..

  • J Ives

Motorola. This will be flagship Moto GSM device.
So far “pro” grade Moto has been CDMA only

  • treydiz

“…the phone would likely not be made by Samsung.” Haha…
