Wi-Fi only Samsung Galaxy Tab to hit Best Buy for $499

General

When Verizon Wireless announced the Samsung Galaxy Tab, there was a fair amount of skepticism about the unreleased device’s $599 price tag. Now, according to a leaked Best Buy advert, it appears as though a Wi-Fi only model will be making its way to Best Buy Mobile for a more modest $499. The Wi-Fi only Galaxy Tab, which will be available in silver, packs the exact same components as its cellular counterpart — minus a CDMA radio. Samsung had promised a Wi-Fi only model of the device when the Tab was officially announced back inΒ September; the company had made it seem like that device was still a ways off. What do you think? In light of the new model and price is the Tab any more appealing?

Still a little high but here is the question. Does the GPS still work on the WiFi Only version? If so I may get one for my wife and tether it off my Nexus 1 when we are on the road.

first off dont even compare this piece of crap to an ipad. especially for similar price tags omfg i hope it plumets! also ive held this 7 inch garbage and its as worthless as tits on a bull. dont waste your time or dollar. it has the same processer as the damn galaxy phone!!!! hahaha samsung is so cheap!!! uses the same parts bigger screen and doubles the price whoopie. but dumb people with no common sense and ignorant buyers who already bounce checks or cant afford to fill their gas tank will get it! hands down worst investment yet.

You do realize that the ipad has the same processor as the iphone 4, and has less ram than the iphone 4? That’s pretty cheap.

  • always cool

Best Buy ought to pay people the 500 clams to get that crap.

That is not a cool comment. If you look at the Samsung spec’s they are more than competitive. If you want an expensive entertainment toy the IPad is a great choice. If you want a touch based functional computer then Samsung is the first of many.

This is a fake add or false advertising. The Galaxy tab does not have a AMOLED screen. It has a tft screen.

I put my iPhone 4 on top of this tab and it takes up three time the size of the iPhone portrait and almost same size landscape but a tad shorter ! This is to give you guys an idea of the size of it.

The only killer app I know of is support for AVI and MKV containers out of the box…otherwise what does one do that can’t be done with an Android smartphone?

I think $ 499 is a little rich considering it’s a 7′ tablet, but food foresight nonetheless Samsung. Well played.

FINALLY A PRICE for a non-3G version. Now I have some serious decision making to do. This at $499 or the 10 inch Advent Vega for $399 plus shipping? Hmm…

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is the right size for this class of consumer products. It is a superior product compared to the iPad because of its cameras, more portable size, flash support, and the ability to add storage via an SD card. I will most likely buy the Wi-Fi only one if it comes out soon.
I see two issues that need to get addressed:
1 – Get a Wi-Fi only version announced and released ASAP!
2 – Have another option not available in the US – a version with FULL phone capability (both voice and data). With Bluetooth and other headset and even speaker phone, this would be the BEST option since it can actually replace something.
