VLC Media Player for iPhone now available

General

We knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make the arrival of Applidium’s VLC Media Player universal binary any less exciting. That’s right kids, your favorite multi-format video player for the iPad is now available for the iPhone and iPod touch as well. VLC Media Player lets users sync video content to a device via iTunes in a variety of formats not formally supported by iOS. In other words, users can break free of the multimedia chains that bind their iGear. It should be noted that the new VLC Media Player build is only available for the iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the two most recent iPod touch generations. Obviously, older hardware can’t hang with this multimedia powerhouse.

Thanks, Hadi!

      • Hmmm

See I usually like your comments… I read it on Mashable first why is that a fail?

      • superchunk

        Can I get some titanium?

  • superchunk

Man, how fragmented. Can’t even run on the older iProducts.

    • Faalkor

You mean fragmented because it doesn’t run on a device from 2+ years ago? Go back to the well and try again, chunk

    • Norm

Finally, someone who agrees with me. iOS is fragmented. DROID is far from it.

    • Mr. Bill

Retarded minds think alike…and I couldn’t agree more with you superchunk.

    • Gaius

That’s like saying Windows is fragmented because 1080p video on VLC won’t run on your 1ghz laptop running Windows 7. It’s not the OS, you idiot. The processor is too old to run the software rendering. Old hardware =/= fragmentation.

Jobs will be pissed if naked girls grace his revolutionary screen.

  • phil dough

And how many years did it take for there to be an app on iOs that will play almost any format of video?

How long has Android been doing this already?

    • lechero

kudos to you mr phil for actually addressing the Operating systems properly, and not saying iphone and then android. i crown you smartest man alive in the BGR for the day.

    • DigitalFreak

  • michael scott

    • lechero

oh yeah, hahahahah, smartass. but interesting find none the less

  • secretmanofagent

Doesn’t do ISOs, unfortunately, like its computer counterpart.

  • Fastwalking

I`m confused, why do I need this?? It won`t play video from the internet or from my emails and my Real Player on my computer already converts video to be compatible with my iphone and I also have Air Video which allows me to watch video firectly from my computer without transfering it.

    So I don`t get it.

    • Mgl323

Some people are lazy to convert so this saves up time.

    • Gaius

You don’t get it because you’re retarded. With this, you simply drag and drop any video file on your phone without converting. If you can’t see what that is useful, you’re hopeless.

  • Janet55

Aha, I like it, not only a time saver, and also more extensions and movie types are recognized, so that I don’t need to do the convert with iFunia iPhone video converter and sync through iTunes, so expedite and cool experience.

  • Jailbroken

U don’t need iTunes to transfer movies files to the vlc library. All u need is to be jailbroken and have iFile or some type of shh program. Put movie files in var/mobile/applications/vlc/documents

  • Logicknot

Ill have to see how it handles MKV

All the reviewers in here have lost their minds. Meditate for a while folks so that you may regain the logical aspect of your selves and then use some decent language in here
