Motorola Olympus Android handset debuting on AT&T in Q1

Breaking

We don’t have too much information, but here is what we do know… one of our Motorola sources has confirmed to us that AT&T will be getting one of the hottest devices out of Schaumburg, IL in a little while. We have been told the Motorola Olympus (we’re assuming that is the code name) will be a 4″ tablet style Android device but use a display that is “beautiful,” and will “step it up in resolution.” The phone is also “powered by NVidia.”

Our source promises it’s the finest Android handset to hit AT&T, and from the limited specs we have received, we’re inclined to believe them.

Cool. Still trying to decide if I want the Streak or not. Btw, first

Finest handset to hit At&t……Which means just another Android device on Sprint or Verizon.

    • ItsMeBeaches

The Captivate is pretty good…so if this is in fact actually better than the Captivate then it should be pretty damn good.

      • EddyKilowatt

All it needs is a working GPS to be better than Captivate and the other Galaxy phones…

    • T Man

You beat me to it, but I was going to say the same thing

    • kyweezy

Well as you can see, Motorola knows Verizon is getting the iPhone early next year. So if they release the Tegra 2 only for Verizon, the iPhone will out beat them $$$ wise. But on a good note, Verizon’s version of the Tegra 2 will be a Droid. It will be packed with bigger better things than whatever tegra phone ATT and Sprint gets.

        ..true fanboy style I see..

    yay

  • jarr

    fourth!

  • hick

2 to 1 says that it is the Tegra 2 aka Droid T2 that is supposed to becoming during Q1 of ’11 for VZW.

Based on rumors so far, with the hint of the Nvidia Graphics, it would make sense.

Not sure why AT&T would want a handset that could give the iphone a run for the money on home turf?
If you look at all the AT&T handsets, yes, they have 4 Android devices, however none of them even comes close to the iphone in over all feature and functionality.

The rest of their handsets are either a Black Berry, multimedia phone or a “dumb” phone.

    • LazyKid

Possibly because they are gonna lose the iPhone exclusivity come Q1 2011?

      • VZSprextel

If the Verizon iPhone rumor comes true, I hope they offer it to smaller authorized agents to sell. Not just Apple stores, Best Buy, corporate stores, and master agents (like TCC/Moorehead) a la AT&T. AT&T made a lot of smaller agents mad when they told them “no iPhone sales” for years.

Alas, I’m afraid the big guys will win out again and our small store will lose sales.

    • ChocoBurrito

There still isn’t an android device on any career that can compete with the iphones feature or functionality. Its always a junk OS on a junk piece of of plastic.

      • Allen Walker

Lol career? Jesus Christ, go back to school you little turd.

      • Mike

Care to elaborate on this. Why is Android a “junk” operating system? What features does the iOS have that android does not?

  • Chancellor

Because att needs to try and break the customers addictions on the iphone before it goes cdma.

  • grrr

At least Verizon’s will have lte.

    • Topher86

…which will be meaningless until 2012ish. MetroPCS already has lte, and it’s a big meh so far. I had to troll, I’m sry, I’m just getting sick of kids glorifying lte when it won’t make a big difference until at least 2012

      • justme

at which point vzw and at&t will both have it with at*t having its 7.2 3G backup network

      • VZSprextel

With 14.4 HSPA+ in many areas.

  • Sin City

I made a promise to myself that my next device must have Tegra in it, or I won’t debate about buying it. I wanted an Tegra device, before Snapdragon was even official. It’s looking like all of the carriers will eventually have one or more, and I’m just excited.

  • Gaza

Been hearing about this over in another forum. Cannot wait for this to land; this is suppose to be the Android of Androids… for a week.

  • nowadroidfan

At&t is probably freaking out right now with losing the iphone next year. Verizon is getting to be the carrier with the phones and the network. Once the iphone and having a year jump on At&t with an lte network comes, you’ll see the numbers decline fast on At&t!!!!!!!!

  • blah

Let’s just hope it’s “blur” free. And PLEASE AT&T, let us load our own apps, not just Market apps.

    • justme

The reason providers block this if due to the security risks involved. Why should warranty cover your mistake of loading something that bricks your phone to a point it can’t be restored?

      • Topher86

i dunno..BlackBerries can load apps not from the app store, not that it makes a difference, but still, it’s a feature that’s not being blocked.

    • SP

you CAN load your own apps & not even have to be rooted to do it – google ‘sideload wonder machine’ – it works

    • Mike

If it comes with Gingerbread installed it should be without “blur”. I had read somewhere (Not willing to find the article right now) that with Gingerbread more and more phones will come with stock Android via Google’s wishes. Of course there is always the chance. Rumors are rumors.

  • Spdr-Mn

Android and Me has been saying this for the past two weeks…

  • Scott

I wasn’t a big can of the Captivate. Reading text on AMOLED isn’t that great, it had poor battery life and felt cheap. But if Moto does drop a super nice Android phone on AT&T, I’ll be in line for it! Been holding off on upgrading for 3 months now. I can wait a few more…

  • Sith Lord

I love Moto and want to go back with them someday.

I love my iPhone 4 and right now, FOR ME there is not an Android phone I would leave it for.

I like what Android is trying to do and where its going.

When more high quality no plastic phones arrive and the OS settles in and stops changing a month so I don’t get screwed, I might make a jump. But it would have to blow away the iPhone 4 or 5.

Having one style of charges in the house and a mac, keep the iPhone in my pocket.

But Android is and getting there OS wise and phone wise.

  • wallyson

Here is the 4″ phone for all you large pocket/small p*&^# types out there who are always crying for one.

  • Topher86

I’m hoping this will turn out to look similar to the DroidX minus the hump; so maybe make the device a lil thicker than the DroidX to compensate for not having a hump. Also, since it’ll have the power, maybe Motorola can have a better looking UI on it, a bit more forward thinking. Maybe they teamed up w/ TAT on this one?

  • Sin City

I’m still waiting to see an high end Sprint Motorola Android device. Shit, I don’t even think they have a mid-range one either, and Sprint/Motorola were partners for almost a decade. Unsolved Mysteries.

  • Scott

It’s way overdue. Apple has had this death grip on AT&T far too long. I have had ALL versions of the iPhone and it’s a great phone but at the end of the day it’s the same interface from the day it was launched. It’s old news already.

I was hoping that the HTC Desire HD would come here but we can see not that this is not going to happen anytime soon.

All the other Android phones that AT&T has now are ok but nothing that I would jump on just yet.

If my memory serves me right I will be staying far as possible from any Windows 7 phone. I like some of the phones but Windows Mobile has always been crap in the past.

Holding out for a nice HTC or will have to see what this phone brings. Just as long as AT&T does not screw it up.

  • JJFNIGHTS80

No thanks AT&T. you screw us all by getting rid of our unlimited data packages. and you love to kiss up to APPLES asses while you give their Ipad Unlimited data and give Galaxy S limited DATA. WHEN THE FCK are you going to learn you that you can’t change everything you will loose more customers if you get rid of unlimited!

    • justme

loose? as opposed to tight? and did you have unlimited already? then they didnt take it away from you, you just didnt get in on it before it went away. every other provider is headed this way.. get over it. if you are using more than 2 gigs of data a month you deserve to pay more than someone who uses 1 gig… why the ohh i have to have unlimited because i may want to clog the network with my streaming porn all day.. get a life/job/girlfriend or sack up and pay for what you use

  • ObiOneKenbe

Is that why Nvidia has a big Class Action Suite Against them, of which by the way, they lost! AT&T gave them lesson’s How to screw your most valuable commodity, “Your Customer”-

You know whats comming to AT&T? A Lamborghini with a VW Beattle Engine-! What a bunch of BS!

  • http://www.ulrichkresse.de Kresse

    MOTOROLA Milestone very good.

  • Mike

I have waiting for this phone on Verizon. At least they will release the LTE version when its ready. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Good to see that AT&T is finally getting some good Android phones though.

  • Notfanboy

People are so dumb that it makes me sick. First lte is irrelevant to most if not all of you. It will be in the NFL cities only, for the next couple years. It will also be backing Down to verizons puny not simultaneous network and maybe get 1.5 Mbps a second where as AT&T is pushing 3G first knowing that lte will be a large push and a ways away they want the customers to fall back comfortably on 7.2. Verizons network has just as many problems however they are not as open or as honest to their customers hence AT&T will say directly 3G or not. How many old people know what evdo is ? Yet there saying verizons 3G is better. There phones are crap minus the few high end droids that they offer. The company as a whole is a scam look at the 3q profits and let that be the judge
