HP’s Palm Pre 2 gets an official commercial spot

General

If you’re a webOS/Palm Pre die-hard, and looking forward to the refinements of the Pre 2, we have a little something for you. It looks like a thirty second advert for the updated, pebble-shaped handset has made its way onto YouTube. The official spot, dubbed Sizzle, features some of the new niceties in webOS 2.0 and several critical applications — including Angry Birds and Facebook. The clip is waiting for you after the jump. Enjoy.

    Wow looks the same.

Major improvement over the alien lady. But couldn’t they invest in some decent tunes? C’mon palm!

  • sirpaul

Thank God they got rid of that creepy woman.

no kidding…. who ever approved that ad hopefully got fired.

      • Pre User

The advertising firm they used was fired. I think they may have ran a story here on BGR.

Or you could thank the marketing director.. I’m pretty sure that any god isn’t worried about TV commercials.

(oops put this in reply to the wrong one).

    *yawn*

OK, Ok.. hardware might be the same, which kinda sucks. But, I’m assuming those who are poking fun at the device have never used webOS. With the updated OS and 1GHz processor, this operating system can trump iOS or android.

agree with you 100%. webos is the best OS out there, it just happens to run on some of the worst hardware (i own a pre+ & owned a droid in the past). after CES 2011, palm with eventually be able to compete with android and iOS on both the software & hardware fronts. looking forward to next year, will be good all around!

although on a side note, palm may be DOA on VZW (& in general) if they wait too long to release killer hardware if all these iphone on VZW rumors come to fruition…

    • Christopher Cox

I agree WebOS is the best, and first to get multitasking right. But I dislike it because the apps aren’t there. It is a pretty phone but nothing more. I agree is has potential. But I don’t buy a phone for what it has e capability of doing. I buy a phone for what it can do now. For a device that gets replaced every 2 years, it would be foolish of me to buy now because it will be able to compete a year or more from now IF it ever gets there.

Not true.. Apps aren’t a problem with the palm database.. I have the ORIGINAL pre And truth be told.. An UNLOCKED pre is better than ANY phone out.. The OS of Palm Is equipped with the games and apps that you want now.. And they have oh so much coming in the future..

    • Bobba

I totally agree. It’s a really nice OS. The problem at this point is the apps. I remember at about the 30,000 app threshold on android, I really felt like everything I wanted I had in terms of apps.

When it got to about 70,000 apps I really felt like I was being introduced to things I didn’t even know I wanted but now had the ability to download apps for certain things that added functionality.

Now Android is at 100,000 apps. iPhone at 300,000. I don’t think it matters much at all with these two platforms if they get more apps at this point. There’s plenty for everyone. This just isn’t the case on Palm. Somethings gonna have to change for their app situation and fast.

No matter how good the hardware and OS gets, it just can’t compete without 20,000 + apps.

  • Terminator

    No.

  • Jay F

Why is it, what was once the best alternative to the iPhone is being shafted by the worlds worst hardware design team. It is beyond belief that they could not even replace that keyboard (the same sad joke that came with the Kin) and increase the screen size/resolution.

  • superchunk

    my DROID Fascinate kills this.

    • BrianW

I hope you’re being sarcastic. That, and the fascinate isn’t even part of the “Droid” branding.

  • Dieter Bohn

    HP WebOS is DEAD!

  • Jay

Why don’t HP WebOS and Windows Mobile just die already?

    Although RIM is still #1….

Let Android and iPhone battle it out to see who’s going to control the future

    • Tdot34

BlackBerry’s QNX OS is the future, it will be ported over to their phones next year.

  • PAPINYC

Oh how lovely; the gadgets of yesteryear…..

  • Mark

    So what’s the commercial?

“Buy one for $99 w/2 year contract and get three free and a $200 rebate.”

  • lolmoney

lol everyone phone but blackberry now has angry birds.

    • lolmoney

      err, every phone*

    • PAPINYC

Uhmmmmm, pretty sure that Angry Birds is not available for Windows Mobile-less; they’re still busy at MS trying to decide to copy/paste or not!

  • o_O

Wtf? NO! NONONONO! What the hell, HP? Please tell me this isn’t the final hardware, just a spec commercial!

    • BrianW

This was already in the pipeline from palm. Consider it a, refresh, if you may. You’ll see HPs side soon enough :-)

  • Nokia N900

    More of the same crapola

  • Scott

As long as the keyboard isn’t as faulty as some are there really isn’t anything to complain about. Screen size isn’t terrible for a phone that is pretty aesthetically pleasing, as opposed to a lot of others out there that aren’t much to look at.

  • Chellykay88

Will people really buy this….? It’s the same hardware! They couldn’t change up the design in even the smallest way?!

    • Topher86

they did…a flat glass face instead of that weird round plastic idea. I kinda wish they rethought the whole sliding mechanics, instead of it curving, it maybe could have just been straight up and down, possibly making the keyboard a little bigger from that?

  • serpentor

Bigger story is the rumor Palm put out contracts for 5-6 different phones for 2011. HALS YA!!!

  • Jeff

a much better commercial than the first one for the pre keep the campaign moving palm

  • john123

Hey guys. Saw a great article about this at http://www.mailtimes.org

  • Judge Smails

That creepy alien woman you all harp on was my girlfriend…thanks a lot guys.

And she’s not THAT creepy, some of the time. Jeez!

  • ChocoBurrito

HP is not very innovative, but then again either is Palm and their “amazing” OS. It’s a wannabe android.

    • jkill

have you used either, they are nothing alike

  • JJFNIGHTS80

nothing change it’s the same hardware except the keys are a bit more separated. PALM FAIL.

  • badchad

    Incredible.

All it would have taken is a bigger screen. A bigger screen would have allowed the keyboard to get bigger, and become useable.

They honestly took a hardware design that crashed and burned and said:

    “meh, lets stick with this..”

  • i told you so .com

no need to worry about hardware anymore people. HP has a alliance with no other then foxconn (the same company that makes, and designs the IPHONE, and IPOD) it is now confermed they are on contract for HP/Palm to make not only the PalmPAD, but 6 count them 6 different smartphone devices for 2011. As I stated before dynasty webos is the future……. remeber you heard it from me first I told u so.com

    http://cens.com/cens/html/en/news/news_inner_34168.html

    • Mitch

Foxconn has absolutely NOTHING to do with the designing of the iPhone or iPad, only the production.

  • jkill

palm has a great os but the hardware is garbage. this is coming from a person that sells this phone. we cant give them away. they are just not reliable. the hardware always seems to fail. if you dont believe me them ask somone who has one, if they are on the original device or if they have had it replaced. i hope we dont have to sell this utter failure.
