Android Market hits 100,000 app milestone

Breaking

Congratulations, Android fans — you now have a whopping 100,000 apps to choose from in the Android Market. The 100k milestone means Google is gaining ground on Apple’s App Store, which is now approaching 300,000 apps. Of course sheer volume isn’t the whole story when it comes to mobile app markets, and many would agree that Android and iOS share roughly the same garbage-to-gold ratio when it comes to available apps. Google has yet to formally announce this milestone through standard channels, though the company has confirmed the accomplishment via its AndroidDev Twitter account.

Yes, they’ve reached their 100k mark, but the question is. Are all those 100k apps compatible with all android devices? I don’t think so. The Apple App Store still leads by a huge margin.

Yep, fragmented OS=incompatible apps and by the time android reaches 300,000, the app store will be 550,000 and I haven’t seen any more fart apps so that argument is old.

by the time they reach 150K only and Android fragmented which i think is the problem… No wonder microsoft will be back in mobile arena…. watch out android upgrade and fix the system before it’s too late

I give props to the folks to can tell who is impersonating them. I’m not here enough to be immersed in the drama..

But I agree with the android market comments. Scrolling thru it looking for new apps is painful. I wish they had some process like *pple. Give us 500 useful, solid, creative, attractive apps over the 100,000 assortment of anything goes…

Actually Android is closer to 150,000 if we incorporate all the sources, check this article out: http://exm.nr/9Zm33f

who cares who has the most apps?
I want a music app, facebook/twitter, a news app, and sports app, which all platforms have

outside of that i may need 1 or 2 and the rest i try once and delete…this story is played

I am curious…which has the most affordable apps? Apple’s store seems to have fewer free apps and more expensive apps…dunno…maybe I haven’t looked enough but droid seems like more bang for your buck…lol or for no bucks :P

Fantastic. Android is now celebrating that they are basically no closer to keeping up with the Apple app store. Not that all 300,000 Apple apps actually have valid uses haha. But its just the principle of the thing. I’d be amazed if they ever close the gap with that much of a lead.
