HTC Knight called HTC Speedy, launching on January 6th on Sprint?

Exclusive

Now, we realize that this isn’t a shot of the actual handset’s release date, but hey, people have to get their cases on launch day, too! One of our Sprint sources sent us in a photo of the HTC Knight’s accessory list sheet, and the case for the HTC handset is set to launch on January 6th. We have also been told there is a good chance the phone will come to market as the HTC Speedy. No, we’re not kidding. Plus, do you know what day January 6th is, friends? It’s the first day of CES, the Consumer Electronics Show. Yeah, we’d pretty much guarantee this release date now. The HTC Speedy was pictured earlier in the day if you’re interested in seeing what it looks like.

This phone looks tempting, assuming it’s a Sprint version of the G2. Having said that, the screen size is a bit small for my taste in a world of Evos, Epic 4Gs and Droid Xs.

    • Galen20K

yeah I’m betting its the Sprint version of the G2/Merge/Desire Z which is a Fantastic phone, should be a hit no matter which carrier.

January 6th for an HTC Vision? That’s a little late.

  • james

    Terrible name, speedy.

    • GlobeTrotter

Haha. I was about to say the same thing.

And this thing is CDMA 1xEV only. No global roaming.

What makes you think that this wouldn’t be Global roaming like Verizon’s HTC Merge?

  • Mr.Bill

I think something like Speedster or the like would have been a better name.. Speedy?

    Where’s Gonzalez?

    • Dinero

anyone else have a feeling this thing i clocked at over 1ghz? I do….

      • Mr.Bill

Yes I was wondering that too..it just may be.

      • JohnB

Does it matter though? Once rooted, you are going to get this phone way past 1.3GHz. Look at this, many people have done it already!

G2 is now sitting at #2 spot on this chart!

      • Mr.Bill

To the non tweaking end consumer it will.

Factory clock speeds ftw for them.

  • Norm

    It’s not sh!t. It’s not on Verizon.

  • brswa

HTC “Sprint’s Marketing Department should be fired if they think that Speedy is a good name”

    • Celz

you should be fired if you think htcs launch with code names

  • Anthony

that could be the release date for it or release date for the blue one? who knows till we see release date in the sprint playbook

    • Anthony

oops ment it oculd be when extra covers could be coming out jan 6 th be a nice day though

  • condon1210

Snap on front and snap on back cover indicates a slider.

    • What?

No it doesn’t. There are plenty of iPhone case that have a front and back cover that snap together.

That said, this is a slider. But the type of cover is no indication of that.

HTC Speedy was an early codename, that was changed to Knight. Merge, Desire Z, and this is basically the same phone.

Another thing is that this phone was being worked on since the summer time, and yet it’s coming out in January? It was to suppose to arrive late November/Early December the latest. I mean when does the Merge arrive again? I’ll find out more tomorrow.

I hate Verizon fan boy allways had something negative to said about sprint!

  • MONOPOLY MAN

Oh wow…another phone for 15 year old girls.

    • Celz

I guess 15 year old girls like the fastest processor on the market…

Nothing on the Sprint projected lauch dates list for Jan 6. http://www.androidcentral.com/sprint-galaxy-tab-coming-nov-14-bringing-white-evo-4g-it

  • Yuck

I dunno. Another phone for Sprint to charge their subs a $10 convenience fee per month for despite the fact that the ITU already given them the 411 on their spotty “not so 4G after all,” (always roaming) now network.

    • PN

Newsflash, ITU officially stated that only WiMax 2 and LTE-Advanced are 4G, something I and a few others constantly stated over and over again. When both these standards come out, don’t be surprised if they are called “5G.” Look up the word marketing.

After you search for the meaning of that word, we are going to play “Let’s Make A Deal.” Which would you rather have, $10 for unlimited 3G and 4G, or $20+ for tiered data cap? All of the carriers will switch to tiered data and you’re going to wish back for that $10 charge. Either that, or never switch your plan ever again.

@Everybody else: It is an 4G device, that will have that mandatory charge, and it’s definitely coming out this quarter. More info should be leaked out soon.

      • JDubbz

        AMEN TO THAT.

  • serpentor

With a name like Speedy, I fully expect this to be 4G.

  • Zio

    LOL..Another phone with keyboard! Why?

    • 3 Phones Jugglin

      Why not..

    • SPRINT_G.BREAD

yeah really ever since i had a keyboard i cant live without it. not a fan of touchcreen keyboards

  • What?

Your release date is wrong. No one announces and releases a smartphone on the same day. Pre-orders, pre-release advertising, etc. So the announcement date may be January 6, but if so that clearly will not be the release date. You really should update your article.

    • What?

Why am I getting dinged for speaking the truth?

  • Aaron

    SCREWWW 4G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!1!!!!!!one!!!!!!1!!!!!!

This better the real successor to the Touch Pro 2! :P
