Nokia N8 and HTC Desire HD now available on Vodafone UK

General

You can go ahead and pity / envy UK mobile subscribers. If it wasn’t hard enough already, Vodafone has just thrown two more premium handsets into the fray to choose from. If you hit up Vodafone’s official UK website, you can now start placing orders for the gargantuan HTC Desire HD or the solidly-built Nokia N8. The HTC Desire HD is the European equivalent of the Sprint HTC EVO 4G (minus the 4G) found state-side. The phone sports a 4.3-inch WVGA display, runs Froyo out of the box and is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. If this handset tickles your fancy, you can pick it up at most Vodafone retail outlets, or optionally online. According to Tech Radar, Vodafone have confirmed the following pricing and plan details:

The HTC Desire HD is available free on £35, 24 month price plans and customers buying the device online will get 900 minutes (compared to 600 offline) unlimited texts and 750MB (500MB offline) of mobile data,” the company added. Buying online will also give you 5MB of European roaming data in your bundle

If HTC is not your cup of tea, the Nokia N8, might be of interest. The N8 is the first Symbian^3 handset to hit the market. The phone has garnered mixed reviews (ours is coming soon), but has gone down well with the Nokia purists. The phone is free when signing up for a £30-a-month two year service agreement. The Nokia N8 is available in lime green exclusively to Vodafone subscribers; we’re still not sure if that’s a good thing.

“Thomas Joseph” … Why do you even bother with the bullshit pen names? The buying public is not that stupid. (Just ask those counting the beans for what your ad engine generates). LMAO!

    • Mr.Bill

Perhaps if his pen name was Steve Jobbs, you would sleep better an have better orgasms?

Shut up fool, names are merely names like yours.

    • Peter Martin

      You need to relax, son.

  • walt

I wouldn’t turn down a free N8. Not sure about that lime green though.

  • bob

    both are cool
many existing Nokia will tend to stay with Nokia and are gonna love the N8

I have the N8 in dark gray. Its amazing! the quality, build, and speed in awesome. I can fast forward in Avatar (took from the Samsung Vibrant) and have it load up than the Samsung Vibrant itself! Even though the N8 has a 680 MHz processor, i’m happy it can respond fast and even faster than the Vibrant when skipping through parts of movies.

Good write-up Thomas Joseph. Jolly good show.

I love my N8 beats the crap out of my iPhone4!! Long live Nokia N8!

Is the N8 capable of using skype for Voip over data network and WiFi? Also can you use your front N8 facing camera for MSN messaging?

  • Step666

They’ve both been in stock with other UK mobile retailers for about a week now – not to mention the fact that other retailers have better deals.
For £5/month more than Vodafone are charging you can get the Desire HD with a free X-Box.

Just don’t see what’s so newsworthy about this.

  • David

We need an AT&T 3G capable Desire HD, and I’m sold!

  • Billum

I haven’t tried either but I guess Skype is working on a new client for the N8 that will support all of what you are looking for. Not sure about MSN messaging as I don’t use it. I use Nimbuzz chat client on the N8 for AIM and Skype text chatting which is what I use mainly. Personally not a big fan of video chat, have only used Facetime once or twice with my iPhone4 and I don’t see myself using it much in the future.

Seriously the N8 is pretty great and I think that Nokia has a winner on it’s hands but I’m a long time Nokia and Symbian user so right out of the box I feel right at home with Symbian^3.

    • Nokia N900

Ok thanks. The Nokia N900 was my 1st Nokia smart phone and it runs on Maemo, so I was just wondering if symbian was similar in terms of features. I use skype a lot for calls and text.

      • Billum

Compared to Maemo Symbian has more features out of the box. Since S^3 is new there are a lot of apps that need to be rewritten a bit to make them work correctly but since Nokia will sell a bunch of S^3 devices I’d expect the most popular ones to be updated fairly soon.

I had a proto N900 last year and enjoyed using the OS and noticed a few elements of Maemo in S^3 like how you can have several home screens with widgets on them.

If you like the N900 I bet you will like the N8. It’s size is perfect and the camera takes some really nice pictures!

  • i told you so .com

boring both are dumb OS’s stupid sheep keep following it, bunch of idiots

    • Mr.Bill

Your level of writing is pretty much on par with your own statement.

  • Norm

That looks an awful lot like my DROID INCREDIBLE. It appears the UK wants DROID as well. Good for them.

Kind of emasculating for the N8 to be photographed right next to an EVO, huh? Poor little N8 is gonna walk away with a bad case of “screen envy”. I’m just sayin’…

    • Nokia N900

I have yet to watch a movie on my phone. I’m just sayin’…

    • Billum

If your worried about screen size then get the soon to be released E7. It has most of the goodies of the N8 with a bigger screen and a real keyboard.

Not emasculating, unless your one of those people who thought the Razr was a smartphone!

Desire HD huh? This phone will keep me from ever upgrading. No way I settle for a Droid Incredible.
