Samsung Captivate finally hitting Rogers stores

General

If you’re a member of our Canadian readership, and anxious to join the Galaxy S legion, listen up. Rogers has just announced that after several ”manufacturer delays” they have received their first shipment of Samsung Captivate smartphones. Paul Brannen, vice president of Samsung Electronics Canada, had this to say:

Due to a worldwide shortage in Super AMOLED technology screens, we regret that Samsung was unable to deliver the Galaxy S Captivate to Rogers in time for the scheduled launch. The continued shortage has resulted in repeated delays. We know this is a widely anticipated device and apologize to Rogers customers. We’re pleased to say that we have begun shipping the device to Rogers, though shipments will be limited over the next few weeks.

Existing Rogers customers that “fulfill hardware upgrade eligibility requirements” can snag the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate for a cool $149.99 — “with select three-year term voice and data plans” — until November 2; everyone else can pick one up for $179.99 with a 3-year cellular-jail sentence. There you have it Canadian friends, enjoy!

Well a ray of sunshine for the customers of Robbers.

Hah, i’ll believe it when i see it at the rogers store.

Nonetheless, a big smack in the face for those who wanted to get it while they had the $30/6GB promo.

Way back in the late 80′s while in the Air Force in North Dakota, me and some buddies went road-trippin’ to Winnipeg to catch a Motley Crue/Whitesnake Show at the Winnipeg Arena.

After the show we hooked up with some local gals and partied our asses off at a load of bars around town and then ended up at a hotel and partied even more.

    Why am I writing this?

It’s only to prove that you can have fun in Canada without the Samsung Captivate

The real question is can it captivate you for 30 months till your next upgrade. Probably not!

7 comments over 2 hours. Obviously nobody cares about this junk.

I care and I didn’t comment within the first 2 hours. Point being?

I love how corporations like to introduce scarcity in an attempt to increase sales

“…Due to a worldwide shortage in Super AMOLED technology screens…”

Yah. That’s because China is deliberately withholding 17 rare earth elements that are crucial to a number of high-tech products such as AMOLED screens.

“…We’re pleased to say that we have begun shipping the device to Rogers, though shipments will be limited over the next few weeks.”

Surprise, surprise. Just one little mistake in this “flawless” sales plan: Anyone with a half wit brain knows that there are already much better alternatives than the Captivate as these smartphones become obsolete before you can say “bobs your uncle”.

Therefore, this scarcity game fails if you hold the phone back too long, and IMO that’s exactly what Rogers did. Sorry shareholders…

Doesn’t it seem odd that none of major US carriers are having any inventory issues with these phones, but all of a sudden there is a “production issue” for our friends north of the border?

Not only that, but Bell released the Vibrant 3 months ago and hasn’t had any issues with their stock!

  • Chris Collins

The title of the article is misleading. Have you confirmed any store has one in there stock? I called 40+ stores in the GTA none confirmed having any. Maybe if I call another 40 I might find one. Title should read. “Rogers might have Samsung Captivate available sometime next week if you are lucky”

    • Ben

They shipped today (Thursday), so maybe if you’re lucky they’ll be there tomorrow.

  • Nico

Launching on Monday! But my local Rogers never has stock when lesser phones have launched (it took weeks to months for them to get the Nokia 5800, Samsung Wave ect). Hopefully they get at least some Captivates.
