PwnageTool 4.1 now available for your pwning pleasure

Software

The Dev Team announced in a blog post today that the latest version of its iPhone hacking tool is now available. PwnageTool 4.1 does exactly what the name might suggest — it pwns iOS 4.1. Currently available for Mac computers only, the Dev Team’s latest creation will jailbreak any of of the following devices running the latest build of iOS:

  • Apple TV 2G
  • iPad (firmware 3.2.2)
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 3G

As you can see, not even the new Apple TV can hide from the Dev Team’s crusades. PwnageTool 4.1 is also capable of unlocking iPhones with little effort, though Apple’s latest baseband version still poses a bit of a challenge.

So, iGear owners — head on over to the Dev Team’s site to download PwnageTool 4.1. And as always, pwn at your own risk.

Hey douche its called Rooting. Now run back to mommy….

      • Steve Jobs

It’s way different. Rooting doesn’t void your warranty….oh wait, yeah it does.

since congress made it ” legal” to root phones, most mfg’s have turned a blind eye twards rooting. apple however due to the closed scource nature does not.

        http://androidspin.com/2010/07/27/library-of-congress-%E2%80%9Cthou-shalt-now-root-your-android-phone%E2%80%9D/

on a side note. due to the nature of android, most in stock form can do alot of stuff that an i-whatever can not.
whats realy funny is even an feeble antique like the G1 is capable of running flash, teathering, multi tasking etc….

As much as I appreciate that Android is “open source”, the platform is not “open” if all the hardware prevents using modified code. Also Until Android is read/write open, it’s no different than iOS to me. Open source means sharing control with the community, not show and tell.

So am I to expect the same level of stupidity from all Droid Experts?

    • Joel Silva

We should make Norm the mascot from BGR. He’s funny. Stupid, but funny.

Can anyone confirm this works with 3GS running iOS 4.1? I’m tired of bricking my phone.

    • Mgl323

Not sure about this one, but the limera1n one does work. iphone 3gs owner btw.

      • sirpaul

limera1n is what I used. 5 times. And all 5 times it failed. I read on a blog that limerain only works for 4.0, and greenpois0n works for 4.1. I haven’t tried the latter yet. Thanks for the info though!

      • Mgl323

It worked for me and I have 4.1. Sorry to hear that it didn’t work. Let’s see if this one works for ya.

So does Mywi charge you for tethering if you don’t have a tethering plan connected?

    • brianw

No, but be sure u have the unlimited data option. Not tierd.

    • Mgl323

what brianw said. If you do have the 2GB cap, then you might want to monitor your usage.

  • Allen Walker

    JESUS CHRIST! Another Apple post?

Hey BGR, might want to get a napkin for that Steve Jobs love cream you’ve got left on your mouth…

    • Mgl323

You should have seen this coming. Today was Apples keynote and of course there’s going to be a lot of Apple post on BGR.

    • Erphan
