Apple to stream 'Back to the Mac' event today, 10:00 AM PT

General

Although it hasn’t hit the company’s U.S. homepage just yet, it looks like Apple will live-stream their “Back to the Mac” event being held later today. If you’ve got a thing for black mock turtle-neck shirts and Apple equipment, you might want to clear your schedule for 10:00 AM PT — you also might want to call your credit card company and check your spending limit. Per usual, we’ll keep you updated on anything new and notable that materializes at the event.

Live Video Streaming

Apple® will broadcast its October 20 event online using Apple’s industry-leading HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards. Viewing requires either a Mac® running Safari® on Mac OS® X version 10.6 Snow Leopard®, an iPhone® or iPod touch® running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPadâ„¢. The live broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT on October 20, 2010 at http://www.apple.com/uk.

  • Norm

Hopefully he announces that DROID OS 4.0 will be standard on the ipad and iphone. It might save their dying platform.

    • Norms Mom

He knows damn well he owns a MacBook and loves Leopard… Bought it last year for his 40th birthday.

    • Norm Fails

Norm, your mom knows best, listen to her

    • bringit

BGR needs a new site for all the Norms and Googfans and other troll losers who are f-cking up BGR for everyone else. Maybe call it BGR for Teenage Idiots, and let them go at it. Sucks to scroll through all of their crap to actually find a meaningful comment.

Either that, or get some mods and control this crap.

  • Jordan

Wait, it’s based on open standards, yet it requires a Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to view?

Afterall, Chrome and (gasp) even Safari support this type of video on other operating systems.

    • RT

nothing communist dictator jobs has done has ever or will ever be open.

  • Jesus H Christ

I’m sure all the Apple fanboys will be watching with their lube.

    • Sonya The Real One

All of us Android fanboys will be trolling on high alert. Don’t you worry.

      • Shepherd

Aww, that’s sad…you really have no life.

    • GOD

“Viewing requires either a Mac® running Safari® on Mac OS® X version 10.6 Snow Leopard®, an iPhone® or iPod touch® running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad”

    **** it, guess I won’t be watching.

  • Sugar Grove

Steve will shock the world and wear a button down shirt.
    Not a chance…
Would more likely spend a billion or more for Facebook, just for more data mining and advertising.

Open standards but you are not welcome unless you have a mac. Some definition of Open with which I am unfamiliar

    • A

Macs and iOS capable devices. So yeah, if you use Windows you don’t matter. As with any company Apple’s first concern is their customers, not Microsoft’s.

      • mrsmith

Their customers, not Microsoft’s? Yes, very courteous of them to make it so everyone with windows which I think is the majority of population, especially at work, which where I’d think a good amount of people would be at 10am PDT can’t watch. Just because you don’t currently have a mac or iOS device doesn’t mean you wouldn’t be interested in watching.

      • huh

Reading your comment made my brain hurt.

      • Nigel

Not to mention that Apple may want to…oh, I don’t know…convert Windows users into Mac users…

      • A

        @ mrsmith,

So your problem with this decision on Apple’s part is that they are helping to keep the work place productive?

      • Nigel

That’s a totally moot argument. While the majority of businesses use Windows, a lot use Macs as well. This is about exclusivity; I imagine “keeping the workplace productive” was the last thing on Jobs’ mind.

Don’t get me wrong…I’m looking forward to hearing about this stuff, but let’s not delude ourselves into believing Jobs has some noble cause behind only allowing Mac customers to see this Keynote.

  • jpwillis

Are android’s blog sites so boring that the fandroids have nothing better to do than hang out on Mac forums???

    • GOD

      The clouds part “YES”.

  • George

I’m going to be in class. FUCK.

  • http://phonecan.com Epik

I just want to be mocked by Steve Jobs.

  • RT

We should start a pool on how long it will take Stevie to say something bad about android today.

I’ll take the 3 minute mark!

    • A

What do you mean by bad exactly? Or did you mean truth?

      Fragmentation? Present
Google doesn’t want OEM putting Froyo on Tablets? Google said so themselves.
Manufacturers have too much control over the end product? They do

Please clarify because if I am running a business and my OEM’s and carrier’s do everything in their power to screw up my product I am pissed.

      • RT

how about when he claims that android sales numbers are over exaggerated, and then proceeds to mislead people by including ipod and ipad sales numbers in with his ios sales numbers and compares that to android.

      • RT

Also, google never said they didnt want manufacturers putting froyo on tablets. They just came out and said the obvious which is that Froyo was not built with tablets in mind, so it has not been optimized for tablets like honeycomb will. And what the hell does that have to do with anything?

  • Ingenieux

    Apple store is down now!

  • LostPlatypus

I still think that Steve Jobs is looking more and more like Skeletor with each passing day.

  • Deaf

Does anyone know if the live video feed will be closed captioned or at least subtitled?
