Bell Mobility launching HTC Desire Z November 3

Exclusive

Seems to be a good day for Canadian news, no? On the heels of our BlackBerry Bold 9780 scoop, we’ve obtained another Bell memo that indicates the Canadian wireless carrier will release HTC’s Desire Z on November 3. The phone will have the ability to operate on Bell’s HSPA+ network and sport a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, full QWERTY keyboard, Android 2.2, Sense 2.0, and an 800MHz processor. Subsidized pricing was not listed in the memo; the device will retail for $499.99 off-contract. Could this be one of the HSPA+ devices that Bell plans on charging an extra $10 for? Time will tell.

Thanks, Brendan!

Does this mean is will work on AT&T 3G?

    • Brendan

      yes it does. 850/1900 UMTS/HSPA.

    • Me

Yes, it should work on AT&T 3G, as Bell uses 850/1900. Hopefully it will have full access to sideloaded apps and none of the bloat that AT&T likes to load. I just wish AT&T lowered plan costs when you bring your own phone like T-Mobile.

Usually Bell doesn’t load their phones with a lot of extra crap. We won’t know for sure until it releases.

Are you kidding? You should see the huge amount of crap ware installed on the samsung vibrant!

Awesome news if it’s UMTS 850Mhz. A few weeks ago I looked at the original specs of the Desire Z and it wasn’t UMTS 850 which was disapointing for me.. good news now though.. I think this means it could well be coming to Australian telco Telstra’s on it’s NextG network.

It does and I’m importing it as soon as there is an unlocked one on eBay for a sane price! I’m tired of not having a keyboard on my Nexus and can’t wait to get my keyboard back!

Nice phone, way to go Bell.

So do people who buy this have to pay the new Bell $10 surcharge for HSPA access?

  • Logicknot

That is for HSPA data at 42 mbs which is not released

    • Tdot34

Knowing Bell, they’ll find a way to weasel in the surcharge. Heck they still charged people the “touchtone upgrade fee” from the 70′s all the way up until 1 or 2 years ago.

  • Logicknot

I am going to need to speak to my contact at Virgin Mobile Canada to see if they will also be launching the phone.

tis a very nice phone, just wish htc will release a physical qwerty with sense for Verizon Wireless …

    • Peter F

HTC Merge comes out very soon.

  • Bradbird

Is that 499 CAD? In the UK it’s retailing at 499GBP. That’s 809CAD. Realistically, shops are selling it for 430GBP, which is still 700CAD.

Why is the UK getting so ripped off?

  • Jeff Morris

Yes! I love this. I’m on telus right now using a htc hero hacked to run the European 2.1 upgrade. I’m for sure going to unlock this Pune and bring it over. Thanks to whoever said it works on telstras next g network, cause I’m going on an exchange there, and would like to use my phone!

Also, I read that the g2, the us version of this phone without sense, s having unlock problems. Does anyone know if it’s the same with the z?

Just had it confirmed today by a Bell store rep that the Desire Z will be $129.95 on a 3 yr contract
