Next Apple iPhone (Verizon model) hits “AP” field test stage, iPhone 5 hits “EVT” stage?

Breaking

One of our solid Apple sources has just let us know some pretty interesting (and exciting) information surrounding Apple’s upcoming iPhone devices. For starters, we have been told that iPhone model 3,2 — what everyone is assuming to be the Verizon (or at least CDMA-compatible) phone — just hit the “AP” testing stage. This is the very last stage before retail release; final hardware, almost final software. Here is the odd thing, though… the iPhone 3,2 unit, we have been exclusively told, contains a SIM card slot. This is interesting for a multitude of reasons, and presents several different scenarios:

  • The iPhone 3,2 could be the mythical CDMA + GSM/HSPA device that would support Verizon, AT&T, and the other current worldwide iPhone 4 carriers frequencies. The mid-cycle refresh would bring an updated antenna design for the current iPhone 4 and bring CDMA-compatibility; essentially, Verizon Wireless subscribers would have the same device as AT&T subscribers.
  • The iPhone 3,2 could be a CDMA-capable iPhone that houses a SIM card for global roaming capabilities; though that certainly seems more complicated than just having one single glove that would fit both hands.
  • One last possibility that the iPhone model 3,2 would simply be a slightly different design that doesn’t suffer from the same antenna attenuation as the current model; though that would be a little disappointing.

As far as the next generation iPhone 5, our source has also indicated to us that device has hit the “EVT” stage in the development cycle. The “EVT” stage is the engineering verification test phase, before the “DVT” phase.

O…M…G…!!! IT’S FINALLY HERE!!!! ON VERIZON!!!! FUCK AT&T!

    • Bigboss

Yeah. AT&T is screwed at last.

  • V for Ve

All Verizon phones will need to be CDMA compatibile for next 3-4 years until they retire their 3G network. The SIM card slot in this device has to be for LTE (if this is indeed a device designed for Verizon).

    • jmh

vzw is keeping their cdma network for a ridiculous 10 years after their lte launch, but the sim slot could just be for global compatibility as stated, and not yet for lte.

    • Ant

I’m leaning for towards the idea that the SIM card slot will be for international use with VZW, like a Blackberry. Good chance the VZW iPhone will not be LTE compatible either.

…CDMA vaporware, I just need a pic of the bottom so I can get a glimpse of the “new” iUSB (common micro UBS) that will be the new standard in all phones across Europe from 2011, that’s why they have to redesign the whole damn thing and as implied it will mean a new model in 2 flavors 16G and 32G.

    This is the original picture:

    http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone-4-Teardown/3130/2

You can even see the remaining of the screwdriver which was removed from the picture on the top right.

What makes me wonder is why was there this new sticker added? (MEID … ?) Fact is, this picture is a standard iPhone 4 and the rest is pure vaporware.

Who cares about CDMA anyway… its only a tiny market if you look at it on a global scale.

    • Firegvw

MEID is verizon’s (and others) esn

  • Daniel Patel

Anyone else think the sticker looks a bit photoshopped on? i mean it isn’t even straight!

  • Richard

You know I see these comments and honestly you all really dont even know what you are talking about. You all think your so dang smart and you know Exactly what it is. NO ONE KNOWS so stop acting like you know. BG puts this stuff on here so you can see what MIGHT be coming.

The problem I see with Apple releasing the Verizon/Sprint/Tmob iPhone in January is for 2 things.

1- it is after the holiday season.
2- I’m thinking they would announce this at DevCon or something to get it publicity plus hype build up.

  • Daniel

Maybe it’s for Sprint and you are all wrong. I find it a bit reasonable to believe that no one really knows what is happening until it does.

    • Richard

Thank you thats exactly right. I work for Verizon and we have not heard anything

  • Jessica

DONT BELIEVE IT UNTIL YOU SEE IT!! BELIEVE ME!!

    • Raul

lets face it the most they had was a five year contract. even if they breach the contract (by one year) the cost benefit is higher to pay out to ATT than lose more share to android. they are getting ipad now. I think we can believe it without seeing it this time.

  • Sebastian

Funny , that ESN MEID belongs to a gateway netbook LT2016u that was manufactured last year .. :)

  • Johnny

For the person that says they work for verizon, i work at AT&T customer service and apple doesnt release any info to us until after its done publicly at an apple event.

Um, Walmart doesn’t tell the clerks what stores they are considering closing either.

I agree that no one knows whether their will or will not be an iPhone on Verizon anytime soon except the appropriate people at Apple and Verizon. However, Having worked for Verizon, Sprint and now at&t, I am confident with certain aspects of the business.

Having said that, and having looked at this picutre, what I CAN say for sure, is that picture is NOT an actual iPhone for Verizon. Number one, CDMA carrier’s list the Serial number in BOTH formats on the label underneath the battery. It is listed in both MEID HEX, and MEID DEC, which is essentially the same serial number, just in different formats. For arguments sake, lets say this model is different, and only the MEID is listed. If that’s the case, simply using my eyeballs, I can clearly tell that is not an actual label affixed to the phone. So unless your vision is impaired, you can easily see the above picture is doctored… unless you’re an idiot. So, with that said, the picture above is DEFINITELY, 100% fake.

HOWEVER, no one knows if or when ANY other U.S. carriers will or will not be getting the iPhone except the “Need to Know” people at Apple and Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc. So until those “Need to Know” people drop something SOLID, I wouldn’t hold my breath. As far as the CDMA variant goes, for all we know, it isn’t meant for the U.S. at all.

It would, however, be interesting to see what happens with any international CDMA iPhones that get shipped to the U.S. with the attempt to unlock them. Last time I worked for Verizon they DID allow CERTAIN devices to be activated on their network that were not made for Verizon as long as they met certain criteria; however, the process was lengthy.

You had to ship the device to Verizon to have the serial number added to the billing system. In addition it had to be flashed and tested for network operability. It was also limited to voice and text only, similar to MetroPCS’ flashing service.

I don’t know if Verizon still does that, but, who knows. If you wanna give it a try, tell the sales or customer service rep to look up the M&P (Methods & Procedures) document. I believe this document is titled “Activating a Non-Verizon Device”. Reps can do a search for the document in their M&P database, and provide instructions on the process. Most reps are dumb, and you have to remind them to do the extra work of looking up the policy in the “M&P’s”, rather than attempting to go by their memory. In most cases it isn’t even about memory, they just think they know.

Anyways, until then, get an Android. ;0)

    -PEACE

too long. you need at least 5 likes for me to read this.

OMG!!!! NOT COMING TO VERIZON. JUST BECAUSE IT’S CDMA DOESN’T MEAN VERIZON. CHINA AND EUROPE USE CDMA. SO KEEP DREAMING VERIZON. LONG LIVE AT&T!!!!!

    • RYAN LIEZ!!!!

VERIZON FROMALLY ANOUNCED THAT IT IS COMING TO VERIZON! FOR PROOF LISTEN TO THIS:

ITS PROOF YOU JUST DONT WANT TO BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

    • Johnny Lipton

Not the same CDMA used in the US by Verizon.

    • hommie you iz wrong

      umm no.

    • Guest

Europe and China use GSM, you moron.

  • HeresTHEdeal

    This only proves THREE things…

#1: You called Verizon COMMUNICATIONS, and NOT Verizon WIRELESS which is a completely different arm of the company. Specifically a joint venture between Verizon Communications and Vodaphone.

#2: Verizon Communications is not versed on Verizon Wireless policies, procedures, device details, launches, coverage, etc.

#3: The rep you got was not knowledgable. He is most likely speaking to the same hype as everyone else regarding the mysterious CDMA iPhone (Most likely for overseas and NOT the U.S.) All you proved is that this particular rep was mis-informed, and shouldn’t have been commenting on something he didn’t actually know. He wouldn’t have been told about this information unless Verizon Wireless had already publically announced it.

Hey, Smartguy – they’ve been merging the management from the companies together for months now because VZ is absorbing VZW.

  • Bob Market

Listen, people – I am sure that this is just a placeholder image, not an ACTUAL picture of Verizon capable iPhone. The post states, “one of our solid Apple sources has just let us know,” so it’s purely verbal. Just thought I would clarify.

  • JJFNIGHTS80

It’s Apple’s fault for getting all the drop calls. don’t know why you people are so excited for a Verizon iPhone. Just hate APPLE PERIOD.

    • HOMMIE YOU IZ WRONG

      umm no.

  • What i just heard

I have heard just recenty from a employee of AT&T was that AT&A had renewed their contract with apple last week.

  • Eddy

I have this strange feeling that the iphone (coming out of its exclusivity deal with At&t) will most likely venture out to T-Mobile and Verizon. Last time i checked regarding phones: aren’t T-Mobile and At&t one of the main carriers to only offer the SIM Card feature in their phones and with a few tweaks the iphone is able to work on T-Mobile too? Since Verizon and Sprint don’t have the sim card feature? who knows but Apple isn’t stupid with making money; they know that theres a high demand for these iphones on different carriers.

    • Anonymous

If you want 4g or international capability with VZW, you need a SIM card. Period.

  • Raul

If I switch to Verizon I can’t like to my aunt Mildred that I didn’t get her call because AT&T sucks. Is it worth it?

    • Raul

      lie not like.

  • skyponk

Or the SIM card slot could be R-UIM / UICC.

If china want the iphone, their CDMA network uses RUIM cards… CDMA version of the SIM

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Removable_User_Identity_Module

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UICC

“In a CDMA network, the UICC contains a CSIM application, in addition to 3GPP USIM and SIM applications. A card with all 3 features is called a removable user identitity card, or R-UIM. Thus, the R-UIM card can be inserted into CDMA, GSM, or UMTS handsets, and will work in all three cases.”

Check this nugget out. FaceTime fail screen capture on Verizon Wireless network. http://tinyurl.com/24h5l8c

  • Canavan68

Verizons new network will use sim cards. If verizon is going to get the iphone it would be dumb to run it on 3g. Then the same thing would happened to verizon that happened to att. The network would get bogged down. But if verizon released the iphone as their first 4g device, well you get the point. Att would lose a large amount of their customers…. end of story…. a verizon rep.

    • Anonymous

You’re a VZ rep and you haven’t read the data load reports that tell you how much MORE data the 4g network can handle? And that the 3g/4g network is capable of running 20 Million+ more subscribers than we currently have?Read your email, son.

  • Patiencethepaladin

Could also be because Verizon’s LTE is GSM….

  • Jeff

is it not totally obvious to everyone that the MEID # was photoshopped to the picture above? Look at the angle people it is clear as day
