Apple working on video iAds for iDevices, AppleTV?

Publication GigaOM is citing “multiple sources” in a report that claims Apple, Inc. is developing a video advertising system to be incorporated into iAds. The blog reports that the new video adverts would be both Quicktime and HTML compliant and could be targeted (through the use of location and anonymized user data). The speculated service is purportedly being designed for the AppleTV, iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. We’ve reached out to Apple for comment and will update the article accordingly if we hear back.

    Wonderful idea! Just what we need, more advertisements for already expensive products. More advertisements that dont lower the price of the devices or services we are forced to watch them on, ie mobile phone, radio, cable/satellite tv, etc. More advertisements for Apple to think they can live like Google does. WOW!

      From a shareholder’s perspective it is great news. Every industry Apple chooses to participate in is a money maker for them. This journey will be exactly the same. Will they dominate here? Probably not and they don’t need to. Apple makes money and now they are going to make more money. This is something that investors like to see, companies going into new markets and making a killing while they are doing it.

        Actually, I don’t own the new iPhone. I am still on my original iPhone. If I had a need or could justify the purchase of a new phone I would but my current phone works fine.

      What spin job? Google makes 95% of their money from Ads, isn’t that a little hypocritical? Apple’s job as a corporation is to make money for their shareholders. Google’s shareholders seem to be happy with Google making most of their money from ads.

      I think the problem stems from people just not liking Apple and mostly for no reason.

      So, ABC makes an App for the iOS and soon one for the AppleTV. Now, instead of traditional advertising ABC decides to deliver their content with Apple’s Video iAds. Where is this different from traditional TV revenue?

      Or, is the problem that you think Apple shouldn’t control so much? Again, shareholders in the last ten years would disagree. Of course, anyone who sees a 2,700% return on invest since 2000 would applaud literally anything the company decided to do.

        The developers are the ones who program with or without Ads. Apple’s only job is to place them. If you buy an App for $2 and the developer has it as an ad free app, guess what, it is add free.

        All iAds does is replace (or give another option) AdMob. Apple isn’t going to just start putting adds everywhere. What, do you think they are like another OS company who use to put ads in the Error box?

        Hell, iAds have a close function. If you want to look at the Ad then click on it, if not, don’t and go about your App.

        Which already is pretty fat an bloated with money, their accolades, will be their downfall in time.

        Time to give back to the consumer a bit I would say, Though I know, why would they do that in your retort, they are here after all to make a profit… Which they are doing by undercutting everything already.

        We know that Google has a lot of money and thus doesn’t need to make money that’s why they don’t charge us for ANY of their services. Unless of course you are a company advertising in one of their products, but we need that to clean the devil worshipers of their money and we can use it for our war against Apple!

    Watch this you will only be able to view adds on wifi and so you can’t use the app unless you are on wifi

      If you are streaming a movie over 3G and 30 second ad won’t use too much data….The problem is the ads themselves.

    Ok I’ll give you that google does use ads but google sells themselves as that.

    Apple sells themselves as a premium product for an elite group of people. Putting ads into it diminishes thier product and what they have defined themselves as.

      Apple doesn’t market themselves in anyway like that. Apple builds products like everyone else. They then decide on what they think fair value is for their products. The amount of people that buy them is the amount of people that buy them. If they didn’t profit from their products obviously they would lower their prices. Why would you sell your products for a lower price than what you have too? Business is about making money.

      Now, before Apple bought Quattro Wireless to make iAds they offered AdMob (and still do) for developers to earn money through free or paid Apps. The Ads were already there, all Apple did was build their own Ad infrastructure so they could have another revenue stream.

    I have no problems with Google being number two, why would I? They have earned the success that comes from having your CEO on the board of directors that steers the tech world always. Congrats on #2 Google, someone has to do it.

    Apple TV. Apple wants developers to make money so that they will continue to develop for the app store.
