Source and binaries for G2 found

General

We’ve just been tipped off that the gang over at #G2Root have discovered the source code for the T-Mobile G2 online. The G2 recently made news for a failsafe measure included in the device that makes rooting and/or flashing the handset quite difficult. The code weighs in at around 82 megabytes; the download link is waiting for you after the break. It will be interesting to see what the G2-tinkering community can come up with.

“Hang on. We’re having some technical issues and our engineers are working on it right now.”

    BGR has engineers?

the power of the internet is scary, the power of android is even scarier

You have to root it in order to obtain that power.

i thought that’s how it is with all phones now days :P

It’s just a matter of time before permanent root is achieved for the G2. Would love to see the one click root like we had with the other android devices. Very convenient. If more people who used these apps donated some money to the cause the developers might find more time to put into these issues for us.

Yep. As soon as Samsung puts out 2.2 on my Fascinate, I’m rooting to get rid of the bloatware. I’ve already purchased one awesome app (launcherPro plus) and will definitely support the efforts of others if there is an option.

Aswell as eat its internal memory. Lest you gain its power.

We all knew it would be just a matter of time for HTC to release the code as the GPL requires immediate availability of all source code created. Developers, get to work…

Once it’s permanently rooted, the REAL FUN will be started.

What is so great about having the phone rooted anyways?

You actually have control over the device you purchased.

You can remove wireless providers bloatware.
You can replace the often poor UI the hardware company added to the already great Google standard.
You can unlock the hardware features the wireless provider locked you out of to take more of your money.
Your device with these changes will run faster, have better battery life, and far less issues as you move it closer to a vanilla Google setup.
Plus, variety. You then have the ability to utilize one of the many fantastic mods created by the community that do far more than what was forced on you.

However, if you do root FOLLOW DIRECTIONS EXACTLY as you can brick your phone from your incompetence.

love the “root down…”. headed to iTunes right now.

I have G2 but will stick with MTslide until permanent root-a-roo achieved for G2.

I’m very much looking forward to wireless tether/AP — to compete with some of the Sprint Android handsets.

      whoop.. happy Friday.

Why do you care what names they have listed as writers? No one else seems to care, at all.
