Skype 5.0 launches, adds Facebook integration and group video

General

Today, internet calling giant Skype announced that the new version of its Windows client — Skype 5.0 — is now available to the general public. The new code brings with it a cleaner, redesigned interface, automatic call recovery, Facebook integration, and group video chat. The new software is available as we type at skype.com; there is a short video walk-through of the new features waiting for you after the break.

Still lacks leaving a video message for a skype contact who is off line.

Skype has got to be the laziest company ever. While Windows gets 5.0, I’m still on version 2.8 on my Mac and that’s the latest version. Coming from Windows, the Mac version is missing so many features.

Messages still sometimes come through days or even up to a week after the person sent them. It’s called INSTANT messaging. Sending someone a letter in the mail is sometimes faster.

The iPhone app sucks. It hogs my RAM, drains my battery, makes my phone lag, and no video calling still!

I can’t wait until Skype is replaced.

You had better start working on that replacement then. YOU obviously possess the resources to get this going.

Where’s the mobile app’ for my EVOOO and other mobile devices with video chat capabilities with full mobile to desktop/desktop to mobile support?
Until then: FAIL with F – - to negative 1000!

  • Really?!?!

I’m a little disappointed with some of the comments I’ve read so far whining about Skype, Mac functionality, and IPhone applications. If you’re so disappointed with where Skype is, feel free to use another service that does all what Skype does at no charge or just go back to what you did before Skype if that worked so well for you. But bashing something you lack the skill and ability to innovate makes you, quite frankly, an imbecile.

Thank you sir…Bunch of whiny ass bitches. You get it for free, quit complaining.

  • SkypeFan

Why was this announcement recorded at his grandmothers house? I know Skype is free, but still living with grandma is taking it too far!

    Really?!?! –

It isn’t whiny to expect support and parity for your computer platform of choice and you’d be posting similar posts if the Windows version was treated as a second class citizen to your detriment.

    9th Blackberry –

Yeah and I’m sure you never bitch about anything that’s free, but more to the point not all Skype users just use the free computer-to-computer service…some people like me are paying customers that have computer to phone, voip phone to any phone service.

And paying customers DEFINITELY have a right to complain.
