Samsung Omnia 7 surfaces hours before Windows Phone 7 launch

General

Microsoft is set to officially debut Windows Phone 7 today at 9:30AM ET in New York City, but that hasen’t stopped Samsung Russia from publishing info about the company’s Omnia 7 WP7 handset a few hours early. The device has a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, 800 x 480 resolution, 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 processor, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, aGPS, 5 megapixel camera capable of 720p video at 25fps, tri-band HSDPA/HSUPA radio, quad-band GSM radio, 8GB internal memory, and a built-in FM radio. Pretty snazzy looking spec sheet. The device will weigh a very reasonable 138 grams (10 grams heavier than the Captivate) and should be released fairly soon. We’ve got a screen grab of the specs after the break in case our friends in Eastern Europe realize that the phone’s operating system hasn’t actually launched yet. Enjoy!

Windows is still playing catchup w/ android.

I don’t know why people didn’t like your comment. If I had the money to buy the Pro from an importer I would probably do it but being personally interested in it doesn’t change the fact that Windows is, as you put it, playing catchup with Android.

It’ll be interesting if they manage to be head-to-head. The gaming department looks promising.

i wonder why the hell Samsung made a new design for the Galaxy S and renamed it Omnia 7, even the Galaxy S has 3 buttons on the front! and looks way better than this plastic piece of sh!t
there aint no sexy WP7 so far :( such a shame cuz the OS looks so promising

Very ugly looking hardware. 800×480 is like rubbing two stones together to start a fire compared to the IPhone 4 960×480.

Really don’t see the point of every Win Phone 7 device so far looking virtually identical.

    • Marc

I think they will all for the most part look identical. How far can you take those three buttons.

I’d be all over this if had Android and was on Verizon, but it doesn’t so it’s crap.

    • WalterSobchak

I see you heeded my advice and started mentoring under norm. You’ll be a troll soon yet my girl!

  • Eddie4

Is that a misprint? A 500 mA battery on a new smartphone? This will last like 90 minutes? I hope that’s supposed to be 1500mA for the buyers sake.

    • UncleCarl

Hahah Eddie4 good eye i was just looking at the same thing myself. Im sure it was supposed to be 1500mA

I am not really interested in these phones. They are too late to the game.

This is one ugly piece of kit. No comparison to another phone is necessary. This one is just ug-ly.

Note the cute little concave button bottom-center. Kinda (exactly) like the button on my iPad. (sorry – couldn’t resist)
