Motorola DROID 2 Global confirmed by Motorola's website

General

It looks like the Motorola DROID 2 Global — which we were previously referring to as the DROID 2 World Edition — has been officially outed by Motorola’s website. The snippet seen above confirms that the device will indeed have a 1.2 GHz processor along with a 5 megapixel camera, Android 2.2 and a quad-band GSM radio. Now the only question Verizon customers will have to ask themselves is this: DROID Pro or DROID 2 Global?

Definitely D2 global IMO. Keyboard on Droid Pro is too small for big fingers I’d guess.

Did they ever figure out the problem android phones where having with 32gb cards ?

This will be a great complement to my DROID 2, DROID INCREDIBLE, and DROID X. I’m glad Verizon finally addressed my need for both a domestic and foreign capable DROID 2.

it baffles me how the consumer complains about too many options.
fuck, i need a car…but there are just too many to pick from.

  • KyWeezy

I’d say D2 global. But Motorola FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP MAKING DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE D2!!!!!!! Announce/release your LTE tegra 2 superphone already!

Will it come with Bing (boo) or Google?

    • KyWeezy

It’s a Droid, So google it is.

    • GoogleGuy

What are people fuzzing about bing? what’s wrong with bing?

  • techjunkieforlife

Thinner keyboard, GSM roaming and improved touchscreen? So now we refresh our phones every 3mths, I would be a tad miffed if I had a Droid2.

i’ve been sitting on my upgrade option for about 2 months. i have no idea what to choose. currently on moto droid. geez vzw, love the selection, but i have no idea what to pick! lovin the competition. :)

      • LTE Lover

Amen to that. I have sat on my upgrade so long Verizon Wireless calls me once a week to lure me into resigning a contract with one month free. This would be a good deal, but I am waiting until Verizon releases its 4G network and phones that will be utilized on the 4G LTE platform. I will be SOOO glad when this happens.

This will be a great complement to my DROID 2, DROID INCREDIBLE, and DROID X, DROID ERIS XII, DROID DROID, DROID DROID DROID, and SUPER AWESOME SUPER DROID XXX II.

    • WalterSobchak

Whoa! When did the droid eris XII get announced?

    • chris vaios

Really? Is that the only thing you can contribute to the forum? Were you so desperate to show that you can type in all caps? Or were you showing off your ability to be sarcastic?

      • bringit

And what did you contribute of value? Nothing. But my bad, I forgot about the soon to be released SUPER AWESOME AWESOME SUPER BAD DROIDDD XXX.2.

      • Madness

        I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE’RE YELLING ABOUT!

        LOUD NOISES!

  • James

I’ll have to go with the 2 Global myself, more powerful, and probably bigger screen.

    • KyWeezy

Shoot, If thats the case with the bigger screen than that would be my next phone. LTE or not. 4G wont be in my area till this time next year anyways. Isn’t the device going to be white?

  • wallyson

Out of curiosity – any of these Verizon global phones, such as this one and the upcoming Merge/Lexikon, can you unlock them and then use them as GSM phones? AT&T or T-Mobile??

    • Philbert

Yes, you can. At least you could do that with the original Storm, which was my last phone before the original Droid 2. You don’t get 3G, though.

      • wallyson

Oh, thanks then. I’m on AT&T so I run into that “no 3G” problem on T-mobile phones and some Euro ones as well.

  • brandon.r

Why buy a phone now when in march be mad with your self for being impatient and a bunch of 4g phones are released.

  • iknowthingz

Why not post pics of the Droid 2 WE? Its already out there. Its black with a beige keyboard.

Droid Pro for me, since I’m moving from a BlackBerry.. Had the original Droid for a bit, but landscape keyboard is too awkward for pounding out long emails and/or typing one-handed. Depends though- I really gotta feel the keyboard before making a final decision. If it is the same size as a BlackBerry keyboard, great! I have big moose fingers and hands, but somehow portrait keyboards just seem to fit better.

  • MaxB

If i buy this for gsm european carrier will it work?

  • tarman

I’m glad this is coming out. I wasn’t all that impressed with the design of the Droid Pro and was thinking I was gonna be stuck getting the HTC Merge. Now that this is official, I can breathe a sigh of relief and hope this phone is available at the end of the month when I return stateside. I just hope VZW/Vodafone doesn’t rape me in charges when I deploy to Iraq/Afghanistan otherwise I’ll need it Network Unlocked so I can use with Roshan.

    • entropy

If you are military, tell them you will be in deployed status and request to have your phone service on suspend until you return. I did this when I went on deployment 8 years ago. I think you can also give them notice that you will be living out of their service area, and unless they bring service to were you are stationed, you are not obligated to stay with them.

      Cheers

  • JM

Perfect…another phone with a not-so-great keyboard that makes me want to type on the touchscreen instead. At least it is newer than the other Droid phones that I don’t want to use either…newer is “better.”

    • Alan B

Wow, how did you get to try the keyboard on the phone already? You must be an insider. Color me impressed.
