Great news for all those ‘Kids’.

Too bad it’s LG. Not only have they been having problems internally, but they’re device support history has been the worst for wear.

It’s a shame phones like this come with android 2.2 yet the MyTouch 3g Slide has yet to receive the update.

  • mingkee

I may get this phone instead of “high end”.
Even though it’s kinda basic, it has 2 “killer” features which can be appealing:
    1. mobile hotspot support (why G2 doesn’t have it?!)
    2. wifi calling (aka hotspot @home mobile)
Hopefully the screen will be HVGA and it has 200+MB internal storage for user.

G2 doesn’t do hotspot? Crap my lowly little MyTouch Slide does that. What are they smokin’ at T-Mobz?

  • I like it on the kitchen table

Its interesting the title says affordable android 2.2 phone. You still have a monthly fee unless you are on prepaid in which case you pay for the entire phone up front. A 200 dollar phone can be affordable with a low monthly contract just like a free smartphone on verizon can gouge your ass.

  • ?

another cheap ass android to flood the market…

    • i agree another cheap ass phone

      • reason

def another buy one get one free to flood the market..

  • Dave

in the whole scheme of things i just dont get why anyone would not buy the $200 phone and instead buy the $100 phone that is already outdated. you are about the spend at least $60 a month on service.. how can you not afford another $100 up front?

    • pphead

i agree if you can affored a 30dollar data plan , then you can afford a decent phone !

The iPhone bills itself as easy to use. All the Verizon Droid ads can seem overwhelming and complex to those not too technically inclined. This is the carrier’s piss poor way of making a “simpler” Android Device because they don’t know how to market to the average non-technophile

    • Robert

It’s the same as someone buying anything really. Think about it, why would someone pay $700 for a 42″ TV when for $100 or $200 more they could get 46″ TV, or before smartphones became big why did someone buy a cheap flip phone instead of shelling out an extra $50 for the flip phone with more specs? For some it’s the up front cost, especially if they’re buying multiple phones for the family. It could also be preference, maybe they don’t like how big the other phone is or don’t need all of the features being offered on the other device, which in some cases is barely much and sometimes less actually. There’s always going to be a customer for every type of handset and just because we like the phones with the best specs, bigger displays or whatever, someone else may want something else based on their wants and/or needs.

That’s more like it! Phones should come out with the latest OS. Don’t know why EVO, Droid X, Galaxy S phones, Incredible, and other high end Android devices didn’t come out with the latest OS. Yes, I do know that some of them are already with 2.2, and Yes some of them have custom skins on them but that’s no excuse. Instead, they give you a vague answer with “will be updated by the end of this year”.

I love Android OS. I love Nokia. You get the point…!

This phone isn’t as bad as as it looks.

This is basically the same phone as Optimus GT540 that was already released and people are reporting that it is surprisingly snappy. Wonder why?

That’s because this 600MHz MSM7227 processor is sort-of half way between the old ARM11 based processors and 1st gen Snapdragons. MSM7227 uses Adreno 200 GPU from the Snapdragons. GT540 received Quadrant result of 465, which is only a bit lower than the Nexus One with 2.1 as shown here:

    http://smartphonebenchmarks.com/forum/index.php?/topic/105-analysis-of-qualcomm-msm7x27-msm7227-msm7627-and-msm7x25-msm7225-msm7625-processors-how-good-are-they/

So given the low resolution, plus this GPU means the phone will be surprisingly snappy, and most games will run just fine.

I wouldn’t buy it for me, but may look great for my kids. :)

      “will run stock Android 2.2″
      +10

That’s the key thing right there in relation to your post.

What’s not funny however is seeing these lower priced Android phone news getting the better treatment of stock Android whereas the higher priced ones are either:-
      A. skinned or loaded up with manufacturers’ house UI.

      B. with older non-current Android versions.

Hopefully this signals a change in that direction.

      • http://www.twitter.com/mattstkc MattSTKC

All the companies putting out low spec Android phones are just using Stock as a consolation prize

  • Can You Dig It

Think I’ll just hold out for LG’s new Stackable Washer & Dryer Combo.

  • Dave

I’m assuming this is a candidate for T-Mo’s recently announced Buy 1 get 42 Free Android Blowout Promo

  • spudsthedog

HA! They couldn’t get the voice from Optimus prime or use the cool ‘Droid’ moniker, so they go with ‘Optimus’. Tough times!

  • Canela67

Honestly this phone looks ugly! Im only talking about the physical aspect of it NOT its resolution which looks great! And yeah how come high end devices always come with the oldest OS when they come out then they get upgraded! WEIRD! :)
