Nokia's VP of MeeGo resigns

General

The exodus over at Nokia continues… Ari Jaaksi, Nokia’s VP in charge of MeeGo devices, told Finnish newspaper Talous Sanomat that he resigned from the company last week. Jaaksi’s resignation comes weeks after that of former CEO Pekka Kallasvuo and Nokia’s head of mobile solutions Anssi Vanjoki. The news isn’t all bad for Nokia’s MeeGo team; they did recently hire Peter Skillman – Palm’s former VP of design — to work on Nokia’s next-generation mobile operating system. Nokia has yet to publicly announce Mr. Jaaksi’s departure.

With all the resignations, this seems more like house cleaning to me…

More like they can’t handle change and jumping before they are pushed.

Maybe it is all for the best. I like Nokia, especially there hardware. The N8 and its qwerty keyboard cousin are very good looking phones. I even liked Symbian also. Wonder what S^3 is like. Too bad never find out..Locked into Epic for next two..But maybe when Meego gets going good I’ll give em a shot again.

It would be nice if they just stopped this nonsense and embraced Android.

It would be nice if Samsung stopped their Bada non-sense and stuck with Android too!

Along the lines of “competition is good” I think having Nokia behind Symbian while Google’s behind Android is going to be positive. They’re both FOSS operating systems so hopefully they won’t waste any time suing each other.

But every company coming out with their own Linux based mobile operating system is truly a waste of time & energy.

Nah, wait till RIM forgets their QNX silliness and embraces Android.

And then finally Apple and MS will see the light and ditch iOS and WP7.

Everybody wants to run Android, so they can bleed more money to Google coffers, right?

        Right?????

What’s up with Nokia’s acquisition of Novarra?

    • vasra

Being slowly forgotten inside Nokia, while trying to develop a BOP strategy for emerging markets net-feature phones through the bureaucratic process that takes ages to complete.

You’ll hear more about it in 2013, when they take a writedown on the purchase price goodwill.

I’m losing faith in BGR commenters. I mean, there are eight comments, yet no one has tossed up the “Nokia is the market share leader, so it’s fine” claim, which is now the best indicator that someone has their head up their ass. Bummer.

Nokia is the market share leader so everything will be fine. All they have to do is cut their prices (again) and the numbers will stop declining. Sell more products, make less money. This seems to be the way every tech company operates, well, except for one.

If people like your product they are willing to pay what you charge for it. If they don’t like your product you will have to cut your price to a point where they say, “Hell, at that price it is almost worth it.”

    • Whatever

No worries, whereas Jarret has backed off his egghead ways, MacMan has picked up the slack for head-up-ass-comments. Click a few stories over and you’ll see.

Anyone seen Meego version 1.0. While it is slightly ahead of the Atari 800, its light years behind the leaders. Glad to hear Nokia continues to clean house.

Maybe he had an affair with his secretary before he resigned?

I wonder where they are all going…
