Google Goggles released for iPhone

General

Today, Google announced that its Goggles image search feature is immediately available in the App Store for Apple’s iPhone smartphone. The new feature, which will be bundled into the Google Mobile App, will support iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 devices running iOS 4 or higher.

“Computer vision is a hard problem and Google Goggles is still a Labs product. It works well for things such as landmarks, logos and the covers of books, DVDs and games. However, it doesn’t yet work for some things you might want to try like animals, plants or food,” explains Google.

Slap on those beer Goggles and get Googling. There is a brief video waiting for you after the break.

I can’t believe that google fanboys have such little imagination. Truly sad. We need real and smart people to match whits with. Not kids like this that are so ignorant and foolish.

Where are Jarett and Norm? MacMan already weighed in with his typical astute nature. Can’t we get the whole trifecta of deep and insightful comments?

Google loves everybody. I bet they are even working on WP7 apps.

Actually google NEEDS EVERYBODY! don’t think that google is so nice. They are a company that needs eyeballs to make money and they can’t ignore the number of iPhone users.

  • hey

    sweet

I’d rock this on my white iPhone 4… if it existed! Still waiting Apple…

This is how you know google is open. They give their, at once, competitive and own branded apps out to other store front.

And yes, android is open source. Its manufacturers putting on the brakes.

    • Donny

iOS is open source too, but the manufacture of iOS phones is putting on the brakes as well.

Android is no more open source in REALITY than iOS on the iphone.

iOS is open source…?? Shut your pie hole!!

      • anom

iOS is not open source you tool! show me the source code and where I can contribute. douche.

        You mean “two”? Douche..

      • Ugh

He said “TOOL”, not “TOO”. So to correct him simply makes you a douche. :)

Go ahead and dislike the comment. It’s ok. I’m just being a troll.

Wowwww…!!! Google is waaay nicer than I would ever be to Apple.

I’ve had the pleasure of using google goggles on android for past few months, and its a truly amazing app coupled with all of googles great search tools.

Now I’ll be able to get that on my iPhone… cool

This is truly a great age we are living in… bet we’ll see some interesting uses for this visual search technology… like “where’d I put my keys”, phone replies “I last saw them on your desk”

Don’t be evil :-) google lives up to their mantra. I love them.

    The goggles, they do nothing!

seriously though, it’s great my Apple friends can use the Google products.

Contrary to what you guys think, Google and Apple are hand in hand with some things. They are both in the business in making money. They don’t war on each other like their fans do. Everything is just business to them. Both CEOs are probably still good buddies. I use Apple and Google products particularly with Chrome, emails and search engine. My preference in Google is mostly software base rather than hardware. Just signed up for the Google Docs for work related stuff.
