Asus EeePad EP90, dual-core 1 GHz Tegra processor

Rumor

There is one trend in the mobile market we would like to see more of: dual-core tablets. Israeli newspaper Ynet is reporting that Asus is due to release a 8.9-inch touchscreen tablet known as the EP90. The EP90 will have a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution (same as the Galaxy Tab), weigh in at 650 grams (30 grams lighter than the Wi-Fi iPad), have a dual-core 1 GHz Tegra processor, and come in a 16 GB and 32 GB model. The translation of the article is a little dicey, but we do see mention of an HDMI-out port, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera, and a 4-6 hour battery life. The article does not mention what operating system the tablet will run — according to PC World, Asus’ 8-inch tablet offerings can run either Android or Windows Embedded — but the publication’s suggestion that the E90 will be able to “run Microsoft’s Office suite” makes Windows Embedded 7 the prime candidate. Release date and price-point were not mentioned in the article, although Ynet suggests that the E90 will be targeting enterprise customers.

Good work Asus.. Similar specs to Galaxy Tab, and the BlackBerry PlayBook.

If Research In Motion doesn’t release their PlayBook for Black Friday/Christmas season, they are screwed. Clearly HP, Dell, Samsung, and now Asus are beating them to the punch.

I hear Research In Motion is rebranding as Research in Sitting Still

If it’s Tegra, it’s not Windows. Can have one, but not both.

(It’s the whole Windows Doesn’t Run on ARM thing…)

    • Andrew Munchbach

Sorry. Windows Embedded (which supports ARM) not Windows.

    • tk-093

Windows Embedded dude. Not Windows 7.

Technically, it’s “Windows Embedded Compact 7″

Looks like a nice system, however since my last experience with ACER, i will never purchase anything from ACER, computer stopped booting on month 13, had to supply credit card to even speak with someone from ACER, after being charge the wanted close 500 dollars for a computer i purchased for 600 to repair and they still charged me close to 100 for the support over the phone to resolve nothing.

oops its an asus not an acer. lol

I know! All the specs info is great, but it won’t do me a world of good if I can’t spring for it.

Posting this via my pre ATOM 2008, ASUS Eee PC 900 16GB SSD, the first Netbook with the larger 8.9 inch screen, after the original “micro” Eee PC 701.

I have a feeling this will show up at Best Buy within the next 30 days, glad ASUS once again is spearheading an affordable version category (asides APPLE and the iPad), tired of all the other brands, just talking the talk and not walking the walk neither delivering or simply killing them off prematurely!!

    Specs wish list:

    1. Minimum 3.0 mega pixel front facing camera
    2. HDMI
    3. 3 x USB 3.0
    4. SDXC
    5. XP sp 3 (over 7) upgradeable Android 2.2
    6. Blutooth 2.1/WiFi
    7. Brushed metal casing
    8. Smudge/Fingerprint resistant display
    9. 4-6 hours battery
    10. Sub $400

    Thank You

I’m hoping for nice Windows Embedded 7 tablet to stem the tide of these iPads I’m being forced to evaulate here at work. Not that there is really anything wrong with the iPad. It’s a pretty fun device, it just doesn’t do squat in a corporate environment. Sure, sales staff can whip that thing out to show clients some presentations and junk, which is a valid use for it.

However, I can’t get past the iTunes thing. Thou Shall Not Install iTunes On Corporate Machines. It makes the device a pain in the ass to setup. If I let users put iTunes on their machine, then I have to deal with backing up all their music and crap they put on their machines. Pass.

    how much??????

I echo tk-093. The iPad is great. But a Windows embedded device has a lot of potential in the business place. I’m not personally familiar with how Windows would work on a touchscreen, though, other than Windows Mobile for phones.

Love to see this with Android 3.0. I do not another headache of a Windows PC I need to constantly maintain. Echos on iTunes and the whole Apple “I’m a sheep in the herd” movement. I am itching in my seat to see which one I will buy first, the Asus or HTC tablet. Either way, they both should be a winner.

correction: I do not want another headache
