ZTE planning high end handsets for Verizon Wireless?

Exclusive

We have just received exclusive information about ZTE and Verizon Wireless… 1.3GHz CPU devices, anyone? While many American’s wouldn’t think of the telecommunications manufacturer ZTE in the same breath as Motorola or HTC, the company is apparently looking to change that. One of our Verizon Wireless connects has informed us that in addition to ZTE manufacturing the new Fivespot global hotspot, ZTE is going to be producing some “high end” Android handsets for Verizon Wireless. We don’t have much information beyond that, though it’s impressive — another Android manufacturer on Verizon.

I know the Salute, Feature phone, they just came out with is their first phone and they we’re just making a basic effort. but this better not be as underwhelming as that was or it will get lost in the sea of phones just like the salute did.

    yes please.

Motorola wont be happy with this.

hopefully they’ll forgo the custom UI and go with Vanilla Android with killer specs.

Never heard of ZTE. Guess I’ll hit up google to see who they are.

      Amazing, thanks for sharing…

Maybe they gave up on Motoblurring their phones. They should extend the same courtesy to their crippling ROMs; get ZTE to develop ROMs?

So, after looking them up, does this mean they will build Verizon branded Android phones? If so I’ll pass. I have what crap Verizon already pushes on other makers let alone their own branded line.

  • grrr

They’ll probably be raped by Verizon and completely loaded with bing.

Tells me apple’s iPhone won’t be coming to Verizon.

      …no it doesn’t…

I want to know when someone is going to have a battery with enough juice to keep one of these power hungry devices on all day without having to disable half of the features, dim the screen to the point where you can barely see it, and actually have a fair amount of talk time…. and not have to charge it 3-4 times a day.

Sadly, battery technology always seems to be about a generation behind the devices that require it.

PLease don’t let VZ load it up with Bloatware. No Blockbuster app? VZ Navigator? LOL. No bing. Seriously who uses bing? Wireless Tether? No thanks I’ll do it for free. Hopefully no ZTE OS junk like Motoblur or Sense UI. I want a phone I can do what I want with. You know, how google said it would be! I want to decide what I put on the phone I pay $300+ for and thousands of dollars every year.

This marks the beginning of a new era.

Chinese manufacturers like ZTE, Huawei and G’Five will storm the market with low-cost but very functional Android handsets.

More great DROIDs from VZW. What more can you expect from America’s one great carrier?

Bloat away, just don’t lock the bootloader so we can root and remove.

If this was on T-Mo, AT&T, or Sprint this would be news. It’s just another phone in a sardine-can-like market.

  • jdubb

Hey ZTE, if you want to enter the smartphone market and use Android OS, here’s a tip, use vanilla Android.
