WiMAX 2 demoed in Japan, 330 Mbps

General

WiMAX Uno hasn’t been fully deployed in the U.S., and wouldn’t you know it, WiMAX Dos is on the way. Samsung and UQ Communications recently demoed WiMAX 2 — 802.16m — at the CEATEC exhibition in Japan. The two companies showcased dozens of HD and 3D videos simultaneously streaming to four large-format displays. The WiMAX 2 standard should be finalized sometime next month; speeds of up to 330 Mbps have been achieved using the beta version of WiMAX 2.

  • grrr

    faster faster faster faster

  • zenshoot

will that ever happen in the Philippines?

It would be a lot easier to network because of the smaller area even if the country is composed of islands, cause’ Japan is the same way. The question is, can most of the locals afford that kind of connection? Will it be worth it to invest that much for the chosen few that can afford it?. Who knows? Maybe in time it would be a standard internet speed. I’m hoping it will.

The question is, how realistic is it to see this Stateside before it doesn’t matter anymore? That is, if it ever were to make it.

    Man…we are so freakin’ behind.

And the lte fanboys say wimax is dead.. shit is alive n well

WiMax is Actually bigger in Russia, China and Japan than LTE is. People keeping Comparing the U.S market to Europe alone.

I bet that is fast enough to project an image of me going to work this morning so I won’t have to actually do it…ok all my geek buddies…help me figure this one out!

This is awesome and all but if they still can’t penetrate buildings well with the signal than it defeats the purpose.

    • Celz

Ive seen an Evo pull in 5mbps inside a bar in downtown LA around big buildings… So yes it penetrates..

      • Chris

I have an Evo in KC. While I’m outside in WiMax coverage I have pulled down 9mbps but signal dramatically drops when I go inside usually to where it switches back to 3G. From my experience, building penetration sucks…. It’s that oddball 2.5-2.7 GHZ spectrum. It sure as hell is fast though :)

    nice

With speeds faster then the speed of light!

    Seriously tho

    330 has to be enough!

A Wimax2….Evo 2? Yes Please. Sprint & Clear already whispered about Wimax 2.

    • Chris

it wont have to be a new phone. The WiMAx radio in it now will suffice. All it will take is a software update to the radio itself. Just like when EVDO went from rev O to rev A

  • Bad@$$

Hell yeah moths fuckazzz.. shit is hella tight

  • slammer

LTE has been chosen as the world standard. This will not change. However, these speeds will justify WiMAX’s existence for all to respect.

Never underestimate the power of the less than popular choice.

The European standard is not necessarily the “world standard”. GSM is supposedly the “world standard”, yet CDMA and WCDMA have almost as many users worldwide, once you realize that there is more to the world than Europe and North America. WiMax will be a viable contender against LTE, especially as the technologies evolve.

    • Celz

Your right expect the part about WCDMA… WCDMA is CDMA tech but if falls under GSM.. All GSM 3G is based on WCDMA which is based on CDMA.. The so called CDMA networks use CDMA2000 which is based on CDMA like WCDMA.. Confusing huh??

  • Mgl323

    Now that’s 4G!

  • Jason

I spy some Girls’ Generation/SNSD in that picture…

    • EndlessCT9A

Hah. You must be Korean. Speaking of Korea… don’t hold your breath on something like this being deployed any time soon (perhaps never?) in the States. It’s pure geography and economics. Easier and cheaper to deploy new things in a country that’s smaller than the size of California. One may argue economy of scale, but the timeline of even deploying a fully functional 3G network seems to strain wallets and the attention span of US telco execs. Investing even billions doesn’t begin to get the shit rolling.

  • TONY

    I would love this!
