Facebook updates photos; high resolution images, new viewer, easier uploads

General

Social networking site Facebook has updated their site’s ability to store high resolution photos as well as view, tag, and upload images. The improvements will allow users to upload high resolution candids that are 2048 pixels on the largest edge; previously 720 pixels was the limit. The site will also launch a new photo viewer that opens over the main Facebook page; allowing users to browse whole albums without having to jump to a new page. “With our new uploader, you will be able to tag multiple photos in the same album all at once, as well as tag photos of the same person with a lot less effort,” writes Facebook. The new, improved uploader will be Flash based. According to Facebook, the high resolution photo uploads are available today (although not for us) and the other new features should be rolling out shortly.

Hmmm…. it is flash based. That means it won’t work on an iPad or iPhone, doesn’t it?

    • techjunkieforlife

Well I’m sure that will be inside the facebook apps on mobile devices.

    • Random Dude

Sure won’t. That’s okay .. runs like a champ on my DROID

Why would an iPhone user go to facebook.com when there’s a free app designed for their device from the ground up?

  • Bob

FINALLY!! However, this should’ve been done a LONG time ago.

Wow…internet stalking gets better every day.

    Facebook are SHIT!!!!!

Disappointed they’ve gone down the Flash route rather than using HTML5. Wish companies like Facebook would support open standards and a web that doesn’t require browser plugins

So now we can’t save people’s photos from Facebook? (you can screen capture, but if you want the high res, you’re outta luck I guess)

Flash on my droid X blew ass when I installed the flash 10.1 update. I uninstalled yesterday and can tolerate the web on here again. Flash is not meant for mobile and am doing just fine not seeing moving ads about free ringtones or cock pills.

Still no way to op-out of people tagging you!

This bad news for people who want to have a profile but do not want people to tag them.

just go to the picture and remove the tag. the word “duh” comes to mind.

Sure there is. Don’t accept any friend requests. Only your FRIENDS can tag you. Either have your friends understand not to tag you, or accept they are not really your friends and don’t add them.

  • Kleany

hopefully we can still save pictures!

how can u save a picture it only saves in html how can i save a picture with the new viewer ooo

  • Velez718

I don’t like when people tag me either. The workaround this is to put that only you can see tagged photos of yourself. That way when someone tags me no one else but me will see the tag and then I can choose to delete it or not.

About time they did this! I miss myspace because of near full screen photos on profiles and adding your own music to your profile. 1 out of 2 ain’t bad I guess. My screen packs a punch with 2560 x 1600 res so this helps alot!
