WSJ: three Sprint executives resign from Clearwire board

General

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that three sprint executives — Dan Hesse, Keith Cowan, and Steven Elfman — have resigned from WiMAX network-operator Clearwire’s board. Sprint informed the WSJ that they would appoint “independent successor directors” within the next few months; Sprint has named its general counsel, Charles Wunsch, as an observer in the meantime. Clearwire writes that the resignations are due to “recent changes in antitrust laws,” but also admit that the move could provide the company with “added flexibility” in pursuing additional funding. Sprint is the majority owner of Clearwire, holding a 54% position.

    • Norm

I agree. VERIZONS LTE is far superior.

      • Sprinter

        I disagree.
You have no similar comparison to back it up.

        Lies!

      • Joe

Yeah, so are their tiered data plans…

Hey…Hesse is Still runnin the Show @ Sprint. And As long as Sprint is pullin the Strings for Clearwire…its not a big deal. Just like in Casino, where DeNiro changed to “Food & Beverage Director”

Hes probably too busy playing wit phones we wont get til next summer anyway.

    • Derrek

      Not true.

Sprint has a majority ownership of shares but Clear runs the show. Unless Sprint owns a “super majority,” they don’t have absolute say on any matter.

This move is most likely to allow another big player to step in with investment ca$h.

And that is rumored to be T-Mobile.

      • trooth

And T-Mobile is also hemmoraging cash like Sprint. The rumor is wrong.

    • techjunkieforlife

Kinda like how some people don’t know how to construct a sentence with punctuation and good grammar

    • jjlo

A little more grammar and punctation please! We will be able to understand what you are attempting to say. I hope.

  • John doe

I’ve gotten 10mbps on my evo and havesee others hit around 12. Its lightning for downloads.. You should try it before you spread lies.. Sprint is by far the best for wireless when it comes to plan cost and data speeds.

  • Tim

@techjunkie: You used kinda as a word, when it in fact isn’t
It should be, “kind of.” Also, it would not be correct grammar to start a sentence with that. You also left out a comma, and a period. Do you remember what it said about glass houses and stones? Pots and kettles? Just saying.

    • Chut Pata

Now you are being grammar nazi here. All we want is bare bone grammar so we may understand what exactly was meant.

      • jjlo

        I agree.

  • John doe

Tmo already said they want nothing to do with Wimax. They are confident in Hspa+ and are waiting for LTE.

    • trooth

That is because they don’t want to be sitting on the sidelines like Sprint when no one will manuafacture phones that can only be used on one carrier in the market. The best phones will be on LTE carriers. WiMax vs. LTE is going to be much worse than CDMA vs. GSM. At least with CDMA you had about half of the US using it. With WiMax it is going to be about 1/10 if it ever makes it that far. Right now you are looking at less than 10 million which is 1/30.

  • John doe

Good thing about wimax is that it is all flashable to lte if needed be. And Sprint just jumped on wimax because it was already developed and already in places like China I believe. Spring will most likely take on LTE once they actually start developing more handsets but Sprint is far ahead of the game and has a ton of spectrum over the competition. It’s only a matter of time till Sprint becomes a top dog in the US once again.

T-Mobile posted profit income of $404 million, down from $425 million a year ago. Revenue was $5.36 billion, almost flat with $5.34 billion a year ago.” Last quarter..
