Sprint makes Epic 4G update official

General

Sprint has officially announced a maintenance-release software update for the Samsung Epic 4G; an update that was pseudo announced yesterday via a forum administrator. The details on the update are as follows:

9/30 – Samsung Epic Maintenance Release

Fixes:

  • WiFi standby battery drain
  • Amazon MP3 cannot download in 4G
  • Large emails lag in upload speeds
  • Increased 3G upload speeds

Update your software

  • The software will be automatically downloaded to your phone since this is a recommended update.
  • A System update screen will prompt the user to ‘Install now’ or ‘Install later’.
    • If ‘Install later’ is selected, a reminder will be sent once or twice a day to install the update.
    • If ‘Install now’ is selected, the phone will power down and then reboot.

Important Notes:

  • This update will take approximately 7-8 minutes to download and 7-8 minutes to install.
  • The new software version is: S:D700.0.5S.DI18
  • This update is available OTA (over the air) and will be pushed to your device.  It is being pushed in stages, beginning on 9/30 12:00AM EST, and will be rolled out to users over several days.
  • Your device must be on software version DI07 to perform the update to DI18.  If you are still on DG17 or DG27, a Sprint Service and Repair Center should be able to update your device to DI07.  The update from DI07 to DI18 is not yet available to the Service and Repair Centers.  As soon as it is, this post will be updated.

Let us know when your Epic 4G gets the goods… and if it cures all that ails you.

    Top five phones right now:
    1. EVO
    2. Epic
    3. Droid Deuce
    4. iPhone
    5. Incredible

    • Fisch

Nexus One? should be number 1 =D

      • vinny

I agree, Nexus One is still the best built device to date. Being a owner of the Nexus One, rooted and loaded, there isn’t anything that you can not do with it. I also bought the G2, Nexus is still the best. Will never give that phone up.

    • Fisch

yeah i disagree on so many levels

      1. Epic
      2. Nexus
      3. iPhone 4
      4. G2
      5. Evo

      • MacMan

        All of you are wrong.

      • skyy_flyer

Well, how can a person be wrong on a opinion? You may disagree with their opinion/list, but than again they would disagree with yours.

      • http://protonus.ws Protonus

The hardware disagrees, that’s why, lol.

      • MacMan

Because opinions are not facts. So there wrong. The best phone out there is the one that you or I may have thats why we have it, because it works the best for what we want / or need.

Now go play in rush hour traffic

      • Fisch

Mr High and mighty trying to act all cool on a forum board topic… the evo is not the best phone on the market… i can disagree with someones opinion.. just like they can disagree with my opinion..

    • http://protonus.ws Protonus

The EVO deserves to be at the bottom of that list… lol. It’s outclassed by every one of those devices.

      • adizzle

Man. You’re really cool. Claiming why certain phones should be at the bottom of the list with no evidence to back it up. Give yourself a pat on the back!

        Douche.

      • Swagger

Wow protonus, with all of the “lol’s” you put after your comments you seem to find yourself pretty funny.

    • Tom

I own an EVO but still dont’ know how you can’t include the DROID X?

      • Mgl

        @Macman well said.

    • Joe

According to PC world the top 3 goes to
      1.Epic
      2.Evo
      3.iPhone

      • SBD

        so what?

      • Patrick

        cause it’s true my homie

  • Fisch

I was about to s*** bricks!

  • curious

What app is showing on that epic that is showing the info, I would like to download it

    • LargeInTheMargin

its built-in: settings > about phone > battery use

  • daddyd302

Anyone update their Epic with this update yet? If so please post. I hope it’s not as bad as the last update where my battery life took a nosedive.

  • Jim

@daddyd302…it has been delayed…do a google…I bet many people will be returning their Epics tomorrow since their 30days will be up.

  • young hov

Still no 2.2 foe epic so evo is better.. after the framerate was removed the evo is hands down thes best device period..

    • watbetch

Nothing can fix the Snapdragon processor the Evo has. It’s garbage now by today’s standards. Maybe you haven’t hurd but the G2 is faster than the Evo on each and every account.

      • Matt

You mean a newer phone that came out months after the EVO is better? WOW that shouldn’t happen!

      • Santino

How is the g2 faster when its processor is rated at 900mhz …. And lets not talk about overclocking or anything of the sort which will sooner or later fry out your phone…. The evo its not perfect but while you guys diss the evo I’ll just be here in Brooklyn new York enjoying my 8-11 mbps upload speed… My 4.3 inch screen and my kickstand… Anyone who disses the evo clearly has never used one…..

      • Santino

        Sorry make that 800 mhz

  • http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mobile-Charger-Accessories-provided-computer/dp/B00450BXWU Ian

I ad agree with this order

    1. Epic
    2. Nexus
    3. iPhone 4
    4. G2
    5. Evo

    • Fisch

      word!

  • Matt

Yeah the Epic is #1 with its broken GPS and lame 2.1 and sucky support..

How’s that update working out for you Epic users?

  • LastEmperor7

Anyone that was doubting Samsung’s support for their phones should definitely be at ease now…another update for another SGS phone…I love it! Can’t WAIT for Froyo 2.2!! Coming soon to a Galaxy near you!!!

    • SBD

Froyo was available before the Epic 4G release date was even set. No LastEmperor7, doubts about Samsung’s support are not at ease just because they released a fix needed due to their own abdication of debugging in R&D. Nice try though …

  • gdog5

Just got my UPDATE, 5:10 pst

  • http://www.planet-9.com Ken :(

I keep checking on my phone and it keeps telling me that no update is available! I have DI07 still on the phone. Any idea how long this is supposed to take to roll out? Why isn’t it available to everyone right away?

  • cypher

Thank god they fixed the battery issues. It’s been killing me since the previous update.

  • BIGPURP

How did they fix the battery issue? I updated, turned off all settings that would drain, brightness all the way down, and I only get like 3 hrs when I stream music. Go ahead and try to use a streaming app, its horrible. And my 30 days is up. Great

  • BIGPURP

Actually, you can get like 12 hours if you keep the display off. Turn it on to watch a movie and you will probably need to switch the battery before its over. sad.

  • http://www.planet-9.com Ken :(

Still no firmware update available for the phone, I think this Epic is going back and an Epic waste of time…

  • Alex

Just got the notification for the update.
