Samsung Continuum gets pictured, dual display device headed to Verizon

What do we have here? It looks like the Galaxy S branded Samsung Continuum; a device with not one, but two displays. Engadget was sent in several images of the device whose most notable feature is an additional, smaller display below the standard Android soft-keys. The secondary display, which is being called the “ticker,” displays date, time, RSS feed, weather, and other pertinent information.  The ticker activates itself automatically when you grip the lower half of the Continuum. Pretty slick. The device is reported to have a side-mounted micro-SD card slot and dedicated camera button as well. We can see why Verizon started running the buy-one get-one promotion on the Fascinate just weeks after launch.

    Just because its got a second screen, doesn’t make it any better than the original in my mind. Droid X and Droid Inc are still the best android phones on VZW. Im awaiting more from HTC and moto

        Samsung doesn’t make DROIDs so they are not quality. Bottom tier feature phones is more like it.

        you only say that because you’ve never compared a galaxy s phone to one of the others. I have a moto droid which I compared side by side to my friends captivate. His screen makes mine look so washed out. and his humming bird proc makes my overclocked droid (800Mhz) look very much like last year’s hardware. Its super snappy!

        Washed out? It’s called not being over saturated. The captivate’s SAMOLED screen over saturates colors by 38%. The Droid’s SLCD screen under saturates by 3%. The screen on the original Motorola Droid has the most accurate color representation of any smartphone, period. It verges on the accuracy of a calibrated studio monitor. It’s more accurate than your HDTV.

        down voted for the truth! I’m not saying it doesn’t look nice, I’m just saying it doesn’t display colors accurately.. if you want to see a washed out display, look at the iPhone4.. it under saturates by over 30%.

        Yeah… just because Verizon pays George Lucas to call their Motorola android phone a “Droid” that just makes it SOOOO much better.

      @bustafone….Thats pretty dumb to say . VZW is only THE BEST carrier in the country. Just look at the numbers and you will see the light too. Have you tried using GSM tech in a major city? Not to knock any carrier, but the freq just doesnt cut it.

        the numbers are only higher cuz Verizon acquired Alltel Wireless which pretty much doubled their original number, if not Verizon would def not be the biggest carrier in the country. GSM will ALWAYS be better than CDMA…PERIOD! the whole world uses GSM. t-mobiles hspa+ is way faster than verizon network all day!

        Blah, 30 seconds of research would show you that Verizon Acquired approximately 12 million customers from Alltel. VZW was closing in on 80 million at the time.

        Seriously, you’re already on the internet. A google search is no more than 2 clicks away.

    it does make it better and it is very cool. just because it’s on verizon, doesn’t mean you have to automatically call it an inferior device.

    Looks sweet to me. I don’t care are what anyway says, the Fascinates screen is absolutely stunning making it very hard to pass up even with the crappy Touch Wiz and Bing. Especially when you have it side by side with another phone. I’ll probably still wait until December just to see that great looking HTC device and then make my decision. If the Fascinate had Sense though and no Bing I would have got it.

      However I may just wait for the iphone in January. I’m getting sick of this whole “DROID” thing. Once the iphone is available for my company, Verizon, I wont be waiting each month hoping some asian manufacture comes up with something more and more like the iphone.

        Android surpassed iOS a LONG time ago!! the only thing iphone has over android is the amount of apps (which is not a big deal anyway)! besides that, anything iPhone can do, Android can do better!

        Sense UI (or any manufacture skin) means slow updates to the latest/greatest OS. Thus getting similar look/feel from apps is superior.

      Yes it has Bing. Android Central has more pictures of it and it has the Bing Search widget, which you can get Google Search in 2.2 so its NOT that big of a deal. Stop whining.

    This is only leading us to the Apocalypse, where the backs of our phones will be screens which will play silent ads during all of our phone calls. As assholes are walking around, telling their mothers that they’ll be home before 11, sexting, or whatever the hell kids do nowadays, their phones will be playing ads for McDonalds and the local rub-and-tug.

    nice phone…I guess we cant smudge the already gorgeous amoled already, so lets add another one, and smudge up two beautiful amoled screens..include a nice cloth plz..

    So will the keyboard be offset now due to the extra chin? that will make typing in landscape fun.

    But this is just a step back to the flip phone days used in a different way. The BB Style will have a similar expanded usage second screen, not a bad feature to have.

        Yea Esp in terms of screen and speed, and for all of u who hate Bing, you obvusly have not given it a try, Microsoft wants people to like the search engine so people will use it. There going to make sure that Bing is in tip top shape on these Android devices IMO

    Let me get this str8. This phone is pretty much the same as the fascinate but has a second screen that displays time and other features already In the phone??? Has samsung run out of ideas already!

    All Verizon Android devices will have BING unless they are DROID phones. There is no need to speculate which phones are Binged or not. Unless this phone is the Samsung DROID Continuum, then it will be Binged.

    Screw this phone it is a bingdroid. Sorry verizon, hate to see all the sales of mid to low level droids going to other carriers. And imagine the dismay when someone buys this and after months realizes they are paying ten dollars a month for navigator or for city id and realize that the person sitting next to them is getting it for free because their droid is not binged up.

    Last time I cheak my g1 and droid are Google experience phones not google phones like the nexus one stop complaining and if u want to use Google set Google as ur home page cuz I know all of people with android phones and when they search they go to the Google homepage… its a goddamn phone and if u don’t like it oh well don’t buy it there’s other phones out there this is a android phone with a bing experience that’s powered by google… this kinda bashing makes me wana go back to iphone we are a android family and this phone its just a android stepchild but u know what its still a android phone……p.s sorry for my rant
