AT&T offering new GoPhone plans starting October 3

General

AT&T has just sent out a quick press release to inform us of several new prepaid GoPhone plans they will be launching on October 3. The company will offer an “Unlimited Daily Talk and Text” plan which will afford customers the “flexibility of unlimited calling and texting with the two dollar rate plan charge only applying on days when they make or receive voice calls, use IM or send a text, picture or video message.” AT&T will also be offering a more traditional $60 per month “Unlimited Talk & Text” plan; 200 MB of data can be added to the plan for an additional $15. Finally, AT&T will be offering a “Simple Rate” plan that bills users $0.10 per minute for calls made and received. “AT&T GoPhone unlimited plans include nationwide calling and texting, as well as texting to Mexico, Canada and more than 100 countries worldwide,” writes AT&T. Am I the first?
    But wait, will the stand-alone data rate goes lower, like $15 for 200MB?
    10 cents per minute PAYG rate isn’t bad.

      This is my question as well. I’m currently using the $19.99 100MB data option. Will the $15 200MB option be available as a feature add-on WITHOUT the unlimited voice/text? That would rock.

    can you put a gophone sim in an iphone and it will work?

    • Allen Walker

      Yes but you have to unlock it first. Weird huh?

    Come on AT&T make it $60 for unlimited talk, text and 200mb of data and am all yours.

      That sounds much better…BUT…You do have to remember that this is AT&T……

    @nutzaboutpoker86

    Yes it would, I have a friend with a goplan that’s being used on the iPhone.

    @ Berry T

    No, because the goplan uses AT&T towers no need to unlock. Just put your sim card in and your good to go.

    These would be good, except I’m betting that they still have those stupid expiring minutes, which is a rip off and a sham.

    If you buy a bucket of minutes or data, it shouldn’t expire in 30 days. There are also various ‘service fees’ which eat into your prepaid minutes.

    It’s nothing like the way it is in Europe.

    One tiny step forward for gophone… But they’re still better than verizons prepaid plans.

  • wtf

    super expensive, those plans arent cheaper at all

    The iphone has to be unlocked/jailbroken to be used on prepaid. No way around it

    @Johnny Tremaine,

    definitely true. Europeans wouldn’t stand for such nonsense.

    Thanks to the posters mentioning the need to unlock iPhone for prepaid plans.. that explains why my iPhone wouldn’t take the SIM.

    No way these plans are inexpensive, they are expensive as usual.

  • Derk

    That is incorrect. It does not have to be unlocked if you are using an at&t GoPhone SIM. The phone needs to be unlocked if you plan on using it with another GSM carrier (T-Mobile, etc.). I have a 3GS that I’m using with the 100MB prepaid data and the 1000 text messages options. It is not unlocked or jailbroken.

    I don’t have a montly plan (Pick Your Plan, I believe). I use the Pay As You Go. You can just add voice and/or messages. I don’t use it for voice (although a quick top-up could fix that), but it’s easy to just use it for voice/messages and rely on wifi for data, if need be.
