Sony Ericsson to test Windows Phone 7 waters

General

While speaking with Microsoft’s head of marketing in the U.K., Oded Ran, blog mymicrosoftlife.com learned that Sony Ericsson is actively working on at least one Windows Phone 7 device. The company, which is struggling to make an identity for itself in the smartphone marketplace, has yet to publicly announce a Windows Phone 7 hanset; although there CEO did say they had a few “big surprises” coming in the next few months. This information comes days after the company’s new chief technology officer announced that they would no longer be developing Symbian-based devices. “Android is definitely our focus, but we have not given up on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system, although it had a bit slow to take off. But Windows 7 Phone is on the roadmap,” said CTO Jan Uddenfelt. We’re interested to see if Sony Ericsson can delivery a winning Windows Phone 7 device in a timely manner… let’s hope so.

UPDATE: The author of the article has since reneged on their quote. Apparently, Mr. Oded said Sony Ericsson is a Windows Phone 7 partner, not that they are actively building a device. Regardless, the company has said WP7 is “on the roadmap.” Let’s hope it gets to the factory sooner rather than later.

Dude, bro… then stick to Apple news and not make stupid comments like “they should look into”… apparently you don’t read much outside of Mac news.

Competition produces better products for the consumer marketplace, so I welcome Sony Ericsson’s commitment to manufacturing a Windows Phone 7 device(s). After researching the various WP7 devices that will be available at launch, I’m opting for either the Samsung GT-i8700 or the HTC Mondrian.

blah blah blah, competition this and competition that… DROID has crushed all competition. You don’t go get a phone any longer, you get a DROID. Blackberry, iphone, palm, or whatever it is will never be as good as DROID DOES!

you must be part of that 100 million on advertising from verizon. plz dude you make us android users look like a imature kid.

That’s the lamest sh!+ I’ve ever heard. If i ever considered another Android handset, two things for sure: It would NOT be a Moto and would NOT be on VZW.

Seriously, how f@ggoty is it that all you fanboys have to continue to divide. Hey, I got an idea, not only should we divide into fanboys of operating systems, then carriers, then phone manufacturers… but we should also divide into wallpaper backgrounds. Yeah, all the cute kitten wallpaper users FTW, you people with Peter Griffin are f’n lame!

        Jesus. Just STFU you morons.

I always like SE’s quality built devices. And I also am looking forward to buy a WP7 phone. If SE delivers it not too long after the official WP7 launch, I’d definitely get one. (But please, take it easy on the price, SE phones ain’t very attractive when it comes to pricing)

Really? Based on the experience i saw with all my friends’ Ericssons, I always saw Sony as the Japanese Motorola.

Of course, I’m talking like years ago, and not the recent crops of Droids, Cliqs and Xperias.

  • WTF Happened??

Awaiting moderation! Ok, I’ll clean it up…

have I fallen into the Lost World of blog comments?

Did every single one of you totally and completely missed the story a couple weeks back about how SONY IS WORKING ON AN ANDROID PSP PHONE?

I’m so confused… where did all your brains go? I mean, collectively you all can barely figure out how to screw in a light bulb, but today is just sad. For the first time I ever, I actually wish douche-wad Jarrett was commenting instead.
