MetroPCS lights up Dallas/Fort Worth area with LTE

Breaking

Today, MetroPCS announced Dallas/Fort Worth as their second LTE, 4G market to go live. You may recall that the company announced the availability of LTE in Las Vegas, NV just several weeks ago. Currently, the pre-paid mobile carrier offers the Samsung Craft as their only 4G handset; the device retails for $299 with monthly plans costing $55. The company reiterated that their “4G LTE network rollouts in the remaining MetroPCS markets are planned for later this year and early 2011.”

      @david,

Actually, thats reserved for MetroPCS. I still can’t believe they beat out AT&T and Verizon in rolling LTE out. MetroPCS is looking like the little engine that could.

This new LTE network is worthless with a phone like the Samsung Craft. They must not be confident in their new LTE network to not launch with an Android device. There is no way to find out how fast or slow this new network even is.

Sounds good for a small company. Wondering if Shreveport will see this soon! Well that & some nice phones

Anyone expecting much greater download speeds from LTE over WiMAX, will be disappointed. WiMAX and LTE use the same base technology for downloads. Where LTE will have the edge, is in upload speeds given they are not capped as Clear currently does at 1mbs.

I heard from a colleage visiting Vegas over the weekend that he was hearing rumors of 6Mbs on average with almost full bars.

Any have any other data points on actual performance in Vegas? I don’t live there but am very curious what an ultra-highspeed connection is like. Surprising none of the sites do follow-up reviews to check on the rubber hitting the road.

The method of implementation of LTE is most important. At 1.4Ghz slices of spectrum, MetroPCS will only be able to consistently deliver 3G-ish speeds and only peak at the proposed constant speed Verizon is pledging to support at 10Ghz of spectrum.

Ahhhh, MetroPCS. The phone provider for those with less money than their credit score.

It might not be Android or WP7, blackberry or hp/palm, but is the world frst LTE phone. And it’s a phone with a full qwerty, amoled screen, web and social networking. Let’s see Verizon’s first LTE phone. Or AT&T’s.

No wayyyyyy Metro beat slow-rizon again, the world is crashing right now…!!!!!!!

  • Joel

Lol@ everyone saying metroPCS beat Verizon etc. You do realize his SMALL of a network metro uses
? Especially compared to VZW. Also last time I checked VZW had the 4G ready to go and was conducting live trials for months. Who was REALLY first on LTE

    SA,

I can’t speak for LTE as I only heard rumors of 6Mbs. No solid facts. However, WiMAX has been getting peaks of 10Mbs in Vegas. Averaging 6.2Mbs.

    Hope this helps you.

Also, none of the carriers have tv or radio advertised actual speeds to the normal general public. They normally say fastest network or fastest 3G. I presume this practice will not change for 4G. To many variants can cause inconsistent fluctuations in the signals thus effecting speeds. I’m sure the complaints would start to flood in if a consumer were not getting what was advertised.

The only reason why Wimax has better speed than LTE is because Sprint has a strong 3G Network & MetroPCS doesn’t (except in Dallas & Detroit) but let’s wait for Verizon LTE Network or AT&T’s. Its probably going to blow all of Sprint users. And LTE is way more powerful than Wimax so dont even compare it. And instead of making hateful & stupid comments about MetroPCS, we should let Metro have its 15min of FAME! :)

Mohammed, Metropcs is for poor people who have terrible credit.

      I resemble that remark [:
