I kinda like the Pearl’s form factor, but as a current Pearl Flip owner, I don’t think I could buy another SureType phone. It’s fast, but it can be a real pain sometimes.

  • Norm

It’s about time. Finally catching up with VZW!

  • Josh

It seems like Blackberry is just desperate to launch devices. However, they are failing to innovate. People these days are looking for more than just messaging phones (especially when you pay the same data package as other higher end phones.) Hopefully RIM can come out with something new and fresh, otherwise they will go through the same thing Palm did.

Stop speaking for everyone. You are a tech geek on a mobile phone news site, you are not the person they are targeting with those phones. 3/4 of the people I know still use cheap clamshell phones that you get free, and would be wowed just to get email and have a full keyboard.

      • Spizzle

ahhh dude i think you’re not getting the point, what he said was blackberry isn’t moving up in the world. ask the 3/4 people that you know if they would take a blackberry or android, i’m pretty sure they will forgot about getting “email and a full keyboard” and would want the best phone in the market

I have a soft spot for pearl devices. I may pick one up for a backup phone.

iPhone 4, Galaxy, Pearl/Curve…one of these things just doesn’t belong…

I’m going to wait for the white Curve 3G next year!

      RACIST!

  • Anonymous Rep

I love the Pearl line of phones, and was waiting for it to compliment my Droid Incredible. $149.99 is ridiculous though. That buys you two Bold’s at Verizon, or a 3GS. The Curve 3G at $100 is equally ridiculous… The highest of any major carrier.

ATT really doesn’t care about anything except iPhones. Such a shame..

    • Mgl

It is their prize possession that they have right now. Why not take advantage of that and milk it for all it’s worth?

    • CMC

And the iphone is the one single device that brought their network to its knees and has tarnished their name and pissed on their brand in a significant way. Even though things have gotten better, the years of pathetic network presence has created the most unhappy customer base of all. And these customers had to continue to pay the high prices w/o any decent network to support it.

Interesting they’re not offering to replace the expensive Alltel phones that they’re deeming obsolete once the transition is comeplete with iPhones. I can’t believe this huge telecommunications company can’t just send us a new sim card instead of making us lose money on the phones (and assessories) we bought, then have to transition to a new phone. Guess I should have gone with Verizon and put up with the crappy customer service, instead of waiting for the crappy customer service to come to me via the buy out :(

  • Jason K

Yes!!! The Pearl. Fits in your pocket good and can use with one hand. Previous pearls had great sound quality also. Will definitely buy!!

  • Joeldf

Yes! Finally the Pearl makes it to AT&T. Been waiting on this thing since it first started appearing on the web last November. Then the official announcement last April.

AT&T should have had this months ago like the rest of the world did. At least most of the bugs have already been worked out. I suppose that’s the positive way to look at it.

My old 8100 has been faithfully plugging along all this time. My wife moved from her old Pearl to the iPhone last year, and while it’s a nice toy, I still prefer my Pearl being easier to carry and easier to type on. I just hope it can be had for less than the listed retail pricing by the time it does come out.

  • sprat

I find it quite hilarious that people who look for certain features in a phone automatically assume the rest of the world does as well.

Did you miss the fact that RIM sold over 12 million BlackBerrys last quarter?

Do you not understand that not everyone cares to have a high end phone nor spend the money on one?

Are you not aware that the Pearl is one of the best selling devices to date?

    • Tdot34

How dare you use facts and reason on a website full of personal bias.

    • HankMardukis

thats because they have 12 million versions of the same boring looking handset..besides tethering what does anyone buying these need 3 g for..Horrid browser still..

      • CMC

And they STILL sold 12 million.

    • CMC

The vast majority of people today do not read sites like this, nor do they do research. They have no clue what the processor speed is in their devices. They look to BBs to message, stay in touch with their social media sites, share pics, and get their tunes mobile. All of which is easily done on the BBs. It’s also the only smartphone that can go an entire day on a single battery with plenty of juice to spare.

  • Max

Again, who gives a shit. Really. And any male that buys a Pearl is immediately suspect.

    • Jason K

Suspect of what. Projecting your own thoughts?

      • Max

Now now..no need to shake your feather boa at me.

      • CMor

I imagine they would be suspects (aka prospects) for a date with Max. He seems to feel the need to put out feelers. Good luck on that Max.

    • Anonymous Rep

Making your purchasing decisions based on how other men will react to them seems more suspect.

    • HankMardukis

I agree with you..Pearls are for women..

    • kji

This is not the first time I’ve heard someone say this. I wonder if it had a different name would ppl still think that way. Maybe blackberry balls?

      • CMor

        Or maybe Blackberry Idiot Proof?

  • techjunkieforlife

Where’s the 9780 for crying out loud?

  • MTSUNAMI

Weve come too far to go back sorry RiM, i mean this would have been a nice upgrade if i had a Moto RazR or a Nokia 8310

  • mike

the cool thing is if you shel out the money for the playbook, it will work through your blackberry 3g plan at no extra charge, unlike galaxy tab and ipad, that u godda get another plan

  • gquaglia

Wow, how underwhelming! Two more duds from our friends at RIM

    • CMC

Isn’t it amazing how many ‘duds’ they sell?? Guess there’s a big market for ‘duds’. Must have a loyal following. Imagine that…some people actually don’t want to drink the applejuice, and rather a “dud”…go figure!

  • DubYa

This is the best offer from RIM since the 8800.

  • Tim

I tried all the Droid phones from VZW and took them all back with a number of issues from couldn’t dial to couldn’t answer, which by the way are the two most important things to have in a PHONE. I would take a phone with buttons any day over a touch screen. I’ve also been waiting and waiting for the Pearl 3g to come out and unless VZW gets the phone I’ll be switching to ATT.

  • Greg Gebhardt

What this REALLY means is that AT&T is not getting the 9780 as we got stuck with the Torche
