Windows 7 HP tablet device pictured again

General

Last week, we saw an HP slate device, running Winnows 7, make a not-so-short appearance on YouTube. Now, CNET has been sent in a set of images that further corroborate the video’s findings. The tablet, which the site refers to as the Slate 500, shows of a front and rear-facing camera and runs the Windows 7 operating system. The unit has the same, jagged back — although this time in black instead of silver — and is pictured with a leather case and docking station that contains HDMI and USB outputs. CNET’s source says the device will be getting a late October release, which — to us anyway — seems pretty aggressive. With all this talk about tablets running Android, iOS, and webOS, is anyone looking for an all-touch tablet running full-blown Windows?

The internet is a wild and woolly place, and no matter how careful one may be, there’s always a risk of virus/worm/malware infection. A few days ago, the Iranian nuclear plant got nailed with a virus, and I’m sure it didn’t come from some porn site.

No matter the risks, there are gonna be future tablets porting full blown Windows and other OS, which will replace PCs, laptops and notebooks. That’s the trend and nothing will stop it.

Both, tablets and smartphones, will be synced to either Apple, Microsoft and Google servers, or they will backup to a USB connected external drive.

I’m not 100% convinced that virus didn’t come from a porn site.

You mean a tablet that can actually run real software and not just fart apps and games?! YES

      Yeah, double fist-bumps to that!

Absolutely – I don’t care if it is “sluggish” (whatever that means). I got so tired of the work-arounds to make my iPad functional for my business needs, I sold it and am waiting for the Slate 500. Yes, I know it was never pitched as a business device, and for watching Netflix and web surfing it is great, but that is it in a nutshell. I tried to defend my use of the iPad as a netbook replacement on several websites, but in the final anaylsis, it was more of a content consumption rather than creation device.

Another slate that is coming out soon that also runs windows 7 is the exopc. It is currently accepting preorders and is scheduled to ship mid october. Looks to be a great alternative.

Yes, I’m very anxiously awaiting it. I’m very dependent on Logos Bible Software and One Note. This seems like an ideal platform for that workflow. I’m currently using a 12″ convertable tablet which I almost never open up to the keyboard.
