BlackBerry Bold 9780 hands on!

Exclusive

Our friendly FedEx guy just dropped off a present for us — the BlackBerry Bold 9780, replacing the Bold 9700 sometime in the next month or so. As far as the physical changes, well, the device features a glossy jet black bezel, with everything else outside staying the same. We leaked an internal document highlighting the changes in the Bold 9780, and we can confirm that the device seems to be using an updated CPU, even if the clock speed is around 624MHz. The phone boots up very fast, even faster than our regular 9700 with OS 6. The 512MB of RAM in the handset leaves around 300MB free at device start up, and like we said before, OS 6 really works great on a non-touch device overall. We have a boot up comparison video of the current BlackBerry Bold 9700 with the upcoming BlackBerry Bold 9780 side by side as well as photos if you want to get your viewing on. It’s all past the break, folks!

Thank you for this video, looks very promising! A Dutch preview about this phone can be found on: http://www.blackberrybold-9780.nl/

@ Josh it already exists and is called the Bold 9650 (formerly the Tour 2)

    Dude,

Not a complete comparision. Looks like the 9700 had an ATT sim in it, and connected to the network.

The 9780 didn’t have a SIM card in it!? Certainly wasn’t connected to any network.

Will the 9700 boot faster without having to connect to a network?

Anyway, certainly understand that the 9780 is the “Bold” to buy now, but those of us who just bought a 9700 this year want the OS6 to be released.

Plus! The 9700 has a microsd card in it, and the 9780 did not. Will not having a microsd card in a phone make it boot faster?

9780 …no sim (at least no network connection), and no microsd card

      9700…sim and microsd card installed.

Big Question of the Day- Is AT&T going to get this 9780, and when do you think it will surface to us Loyal BB Aristocrats?

Is there actually going to be a legitimate review of the 9780 going up any time soon? I followed the link from the Best QWERTY Keyboard winner page (for the 9780) and when you click read the entire review it leads me here. Is this what you call a review BGR? I expeted better from you. If its a linking error then get on top of it.
