Watch worker climb over 1,700 feet to fix a broadcast TV tower, no safety harness

TV

What’s taller than the Sears tower and lets you watch ESPN, MTV, and CNBC? A 1,700 foot tall broadcast antenna of course. What happens when something needs to be fixed, though? Not only does someone have to climb the tower, but because of some incomprehensible reason — it would slow the worker down — no safety devices are used. Check out this unbelievable video — we had a couple panic attacks just watching it.

    THAT’S A CRAZY JOB!

I couldn’t watch the whole thing and I’m still freaking out. My nuts are hiding – seriously – and all I keep thinking is NO EFFING WAY. Can you imagine the first time someone does this??? How would you “train” for it?

I noticed that I took a deep breath only at the end of this video. My whole body was tensed like I was sitting at a dentist chair having my cavity drilled out. Good gosh, no wonder I pay so much for the service. It is worth it though. I’ll never complain about my job ever again.

I gotta say it looked interesting..Id love it..im one who just isnt afraid of heights at all..bungy J, 2 sky dives..bet the air is amazingly thin

  • Dmitry

holy crap!!!…. How did he get down??…

  • vinny

I work on ladders all day, usually the heights I work at are between 35 and 50 feet. That is one crazy ass job and what I find so nuts is Osha approves of climbing free hand.

I HOPE he gets paid a LOT of money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am speechless… how does OSHA allow this without harnesses? The winds at that height would be very strong and destabilizing, let alone worrying about lightning strikes. I would hazard a guess that life insurance for even perfectly healthy workers at this job (which I guess you have to be to climb 1768 ft) would be kind of ummm…. how do we say it…. exorbitantly expensive?

Crazy, non union, or maybe Bamaland disbanded OSHA in order to bail out a cable company.

So why don’t they keep a tool box up there all the time? Afraid of theft?
    Also, why not parachute down?

I did some of this for radio and TV stations back in the 60s when I was immortal and physically able, and not to mention nuts enough to do it. Then again I’ve always liked heights and for my 70th BD I plan to jump out an airplane that’s perfectly capable of making a normal landing.

Holly Molly! I wonder how long did they take to get up there, and they better have hell of pay for that!

WHY involve OSHA – it is working perfectly well as it it- too damn much osha already

  • Connor

There’s a reason the faces are blurred. OSHA does NOT say it’s okay for that to be done without a safety device.

  • ahh

oh that’s one job i would certainly not do hung over.

  • Jon
