Windows Phone 7 will have the ability to tether

General

At launch, Windows Phone 7 won’t be able to copy and paste, but it will be able to tether. According to Brandon Watson, Director of Windows Phone 7, Microsoft’s next mobile operating system will have the ability to provide your computer with cellular data connectivity, assuming your carrier allows it. The tip was dropped during a radio interview on the TWiT podcast Windows Weekly. Great news for those who would like a Windows Phone 7 device and rely on tethering. Now… which carriers do we think will support it?

UPDATE: Windows Phone 7 will not support tethering. See update here.]

    To Jarred is a lonely,

There is nothing odd about my post.

    1) I have always used working keyboards such as in all the PPC variants up to the Touch Pro2. Touch wasn’t a huge deal when using the stylus on an occassional Copy/Paste segment.

    2) Leaving out this feature in Win7, seems every bit of a negligence in a time where they need to regain marketshare. Even Apple has instituted the presence of Copy/Paste. Win7 needs to be strong with as many features as possible to attract attention. With more and more people relying on their smartphones for computational skills, Copy/paste is still a very viable need in copying important documents saving them in a data base and redirecting them to constituents.

If it is used in laptops and other smartphones, Win7 should have instituted this feature. They should not solely rely on their entertainment skills in releasing a smartphone. Apple and Android will only move further ahead.

Quite true. The Windows7 phone(s) will be compared right off the bat to the iPhone. That’s just the way it is. Every new phone is compared to the “Apple Jesus Phone”. Apple set the bar. At least the early Win7 phones are going to fail to live up to the hype, and fail miserably when compared to the iPhone. They’ll probably also fail in comparison to Android phones.

Add to that the questions of battery life and available apps and you have another potential Palm Pre, at least at launch.
