Pre-orders for T-Mobile G2 begin tomorrow, on sale October 6

General

If you are a member of the Magenta faithful, and dutifully awaiting the release of the G2, there is good news. It appears as though T-Mobile will begin taking pre-orders for the G2, starting tomorrow, for existing customers. A document acquired by TMoNews reads: “From September 24 through October 4, existing T-Mobile customers will be given the exclusive opportunity to pre-order the T-Mobile G2 with Google at select T-Mobile retail stores, through Care upgrades, and online at http://G2.t-mobile.com.” The memo goes on to detail that the general release date of the handset is October 6. Anyone going to pre-order a G-Tizzy tomorrow?

I know quiet a few on Mobile that have been waiting for a real successor to G1

It’d be nice if it had the new sense…..

    • BD

I think it’s nice that it actually doesn’t come w/Sense, it is for once a phone experience the way that Google has envisioned, which is pretty rare these days among the Android offerings.

Your opinion is in the minority there, most of us vastly prefer Android without pointless bastardization.

Yeah, but he’s on the side of the mass consumer who love the pretty things.

The ones who keep these phone biz boys and girls sleeping in beds of green lettuce.

I was really waiting on this but after seeing that it does not have the front facing camera and the my touch hd does I will wait for that, I will miss having the slide out keyboard though!

Any idea of T-mobile’s pricing? I will wait 2 weeks to save $50 at radio shack (or is that just for new customers?)

  • JK

The only thing I’ll pre-order is my pizza. The price is always the same whether you get it now or later.

“Pre-Order” is the code word for high-ball price. Unless an item is only going to be produced in limited quanties, and once they are gone, they’re gone……..But phones are mass produced consumer electronics so I’ll bide my time and get it a couple months later when the price goes down as it always does.

i had a n1 and lost it, im getting a Vibrant as a replacement

wondering how that slower processor will stack up..

    • BD

I agree w/George. Similar to how megapixels in cameras doesn’t always equate to better picture quality, and more horsepower in a car doesn’t always mean faster. It’s the sum of its parts. In that regard,

i’m as anxious as you to find out how it stacks up, there were early comparisons of the G2 in graphical performance (it was listed as HTC Vision in those tests) where it matched that of the Droid X and Droid 2 in framerates count. Not having a graphical overlay, as good as Sense is, only makes the phone much more efficient at using its processing power. Only time will tell…

  • George

    Aw, geez…this again.

It isn’t a “slower processor” compared to your N1. It is a newer generation, smaller and more power efficient, which means it does more and loses less power to heat.

Compared to the Vibrant, it should be comparable. The differences are the screen size and the lack of any skin which will delay getting upgraded to the newest iteration of the Android OS. Since you had an N1 (and got Froyo months before others), you should appreciate that fact alone.

AND, the G2 is capable of HSPA+ if that is available in the areas you operate your phone.

Don’t fall into that trap of comparing solely on the basis of mHz. There is much more to the “speed” of a phone than that.

Exactly, there are Intel CPUs that run at 1.8ghz that blow 3.2ghz processors from a few years ago out of the water.

I’m eagerly awaiting this phone (and the Verizon Evo-ish phone too), but will wait at least 3 weeks after it’s release to A) See the reviews by BG and Engadget and B) See if there are any bugs.

  • Vibrant Freezes Too

The Vibrant I have loves to freeze even though it has a 1GHz processor. My Vibrant even froze after I wiped it with no apps on it.

I’ve had phones like the Eris that were much snappier even with a smaller processor.

I agree it’s not the processor size that equates to better performance.

would much rather wait for the mytouch HD..the 4G radio isn’t worth me selling my N1 for a slower phone!

  • JM

Maybe… but it looks a little boring. I think it will be a nice device though.

  • R-W

Screw the G2! I am so sick of T-Mo!

  • Alex

For those that are still complaining about the processor. You need to do your research. It’s faster than the processor in the nexus one. It annoys me when people don’t do any basic research on phones and just assume that it’s slower.
